When I think of you, tears of sadness flow. There seems to be no end to them in sight. It hurt me so much to see you suffer, and I know that you forgive me for everything we had to do to you the last 2 weeks as you lay dying of cancer. And I know you understand why we finally released you from your pain. We had to do it, because we loved you so much... In spirit you've probably visited us this past week. Did you see the little memorial I built for you in the living room with the tulips, your pillow, and your peekachoo toy? I put music on every morning for you and open the shades for you. The couch will always be yours, honey, because I still love you. All I want to do now is go for walkies. You taught me so much about loving being outside in all kinds of weather. I have to imagine you springing lightly ahead of me, leading me to your favorite smelling depots. I imagine you looking back at me and squirming slightly, almost as though you are giggling with your body. I have to pretend that you are with me, because I can't bear to live otherwise, because I will always love you. When I come home at night I remember how you used to run downstairs to greet me with tail wags and hugs and kisses. You might see me cry then. Don't worry. I love you... You know I'm suffering without you, sweetie. Hoping to alleviate my pain, I went online to look at greyhound rescues. But you were not there, so I cried. In my heart I'll never be able to replace you, honey. That's how much I love you. I was so desperate to touch you again that I had your arch-rival, Astro, over one night. I know. How could I do such a thing! But Astro doesn't feel as soft and fluffy like you. His ears are not velvety and warm. He's not easy to give kisses and raspberries to. He doesn't lean up against me. It wasn't any good, sweetie. Because I love only you... You know how much daddy likes music? Well we went out last night because I was so sad and lonely in the house without you. We went to Church of Boston to hear some bands. Every song made me cry, so we had to leave because people wouldn't understand that I was crying over you... You know Grace the cat still waits for you to come upstairs at bedtime. When you stopped coming upstairs last week, she did not understand. She was mad at me. And after you passed away, she came downstairs to look for you. She sniffed in every corner of the room and then cried, because you were not there. All of your friends on twitter sent me condolences. They miss you so much, and I miss sharing all of your funny thoughts and antics with them. The hardest day was when you sent your last tweet. The happiest years of my life were spent with you, Tahoe. Death is not the end- it is just a transition. Just because he crossed over doesn't mean you still can't be best friends. You are a part of each other forever. Nothing can ever change that. The bond you two share is a great blessing. That was one of the most beautiful tributes I've ever read. Don't try to understand anything you think or feel- just listen to your heart. It knows. We lost our Sophie almost a year ago and it still hurts so much. Coming home from work and not having her there waiting was awful. Tahoe looked like a sweet and gentle soul. After my girl passed last year I would walk around the neighborhood with her collar trying to come to terms with her passing. My heart hurts with yours.One day those tears will become smiles again.
