UPDATE ON KATIE...I went to visit her last night and she was doing good, walking strong on her own. The doctor had taken some pre-surgery pics and was able to point out all the vitals. I had estimated the handle had entered 3 - 4 inches, the doctor said it was more like 5 - 5 1/2 inches. There is one concern he had that the chest tube had release another liter of air. I spoke with the Dr around 8 this morning and he said the tube had minimal drainage which is good. They will continue to monitor her with hopes to remove the tube tonight or tomorrow morning. But overall she should make a full recovery, just need to pray the lung was not damaged and can heal properly. Now I need to figure out how to pay for this. The bills at are $5,500. If anyone knows of a place that may offer financial assisstance please let me know.

I'm so happy to hear a positive update. I don't know much about it, but I've heard Care Credit can be helpful. Hopefully, someone else can give some info.

Look into a Home Equity Line of Credit, through a credit union, if possible. The interest rates are significantly lower than care credit at 14.9%.

I remember being at the e-vet hospital a few years ago when William was really sick and I was there to visit with him. He had been in the hospital for over a week and his bill was over $8,000. There was a man in the waiting room who wanted to pick up his dog but didn't have enough money to pay his bill. He was like $75 short and they weren't going to give him his dog until he came up with the money. I told them just to add it on to William's bill; I figured what would another $75 hurt with his bill so high already and getting higher!

Hope your baby gets out soon :colgate

So glad to hear that she's doing well....continued prayers for your baby girl.

And, yes, Care Credit has helped me out in the past...it was God send and I have taken money from our Home Equity Loan as well.

You do what you have to do.....

When I used Care Credit, there was no interest for the first year, but if you carried it over that one year then the interest rate was phenominal.

But check with your vets office. Rates change per office and some offices dont' carry it.

I got a whole year at my grey's dentist. But the big whoopa$$ hospital only allowed me to have 3 months interest free. The bills were the same.

But, it's still worth checking out. I just always made sure I paid CC by the end of their term for 0 interest.

Care Credit has dropped their 3 month/no interest plan, so now every place that accepts it you should be able to get 6 months with no interest. Some places will allow a year. There is a larger fee to the vet hospitals that offer the longer plans.

Be careful with these no interest cards, they send you the paper work with the monthly payment which in no way comes close to paying off the loan in the no interest time and then it becomes an overblown amount of interest. I had one for a dentist, the payment was $34 a month, when in actuality to pay it off in the time alloted, I paid $101 to get the no interest deal. I really think that should be against the law because I know some people who fell for that and were in trouble paying it off. Some don't pay close attention to figuring stuff like that out.

Good luck with your sweet girl

United Animal Nations / Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS) offers some medical aid. You'll have to go to their website to find more info, but the name is something with "Lifeline" in it and their website has lots of success stories on it where folks have sought their help. Good luck with your baby's recovery.

My sister did check with home owners and they will not cover it. If the propery had damage to, like a broken sidewalk that caused the injury or if the dog fell into the pool, that would be covered. But no luck. I did place a complaint with the BBB and had my credit card hold payment and dispute the charges that were over the the original price they gave me.

If you got Katie through a greyhound rescue group perhaps you could contact them. Everytime one of our greys in our group has a huge bill, our president sends out an email blast to our grey families asking if they can donate anything. I am sorry that is the only advice I can come up with now.

Yes our group do the same thing. It's worth a try.

An idea if you want to do a raffle [the prize being a pastel portrait of their dog done by me] within your greyhound rescue group PM me I'd be glad to donate my services to do a sketch to help raise money for you :)

Hope Katie gets better very soon.......

Glad Katie is healing. Sending prayers.
