DustysMom
We came home a little while ago to find Dusty in his crate (head first). He loves his crate so this wasn't unusual but he couldn't make the turn to get out headfirst. We realized that one of his hind legs wasn't working at all - couldn't bear any weight and was knuckling under. We pulled the bed out of the crate to get him out. We got him outside where he promptly pooped while collapsing and then went down in the grass. DH carried him in and put him on his bed. I spoke to my vet who had me give him 10 mgs of Prednisolone which I had on hand. Fortunately he was eager to eat the pills in some steak. He is 13 and is in pretty bad shape from LS and LP. The vet will be calling back at 6 to see what's happening, but I just don't have a very good feeling. Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated. Scooby172
Could it be vestibular syndrome? This just happened to my 12 year old galgo. Could not stand up, falling over unable to eat or regain his balance. Check to see if his eyes are moving back and forth, if so, it could be vestibular. Valor did recover but he has residual problems with balance. Hopefully it is not a stroke, dogs do generally recover from vestibular syndrome. Good luck, we're thinking of you, I know how scary this is having just gone through it. Linda, Valor, Bella and Keeva

DustysMom
We went through vestibular syndrome with an old bichon a few years ago. (She did manage to recover totally.) Dusty seems fine other than the leg(s) and heavier than usual breathing due to the stress and his LP.
Guest Energy11
Yes, could be a stroke or Vestibular Syndrome. Glad he was able to take the meds! Sending him lots of love, many hugs and tons of prayers!

Guest Heehoo
Snowy was 13 when she had her first stroke in November. She couldn't stand w/out assistance, couldn't control her head. I took her to my vet & he kept her for 3 days. By the 3rd day she was standing & walking w/out assistance. He kept her so he could have her on an iv & also so someone could take her outside since someone was at the clinic all the time. She pulled through until about 6 months later & she had another one. Same thing, stayed at the vet for 3 days, came home & did pretty well for about a month, then I had to let her go. She was a broken hock survivor & that leg had grown weaker. I think otherwise, she would've lived to be 14 in August.
