heartdogs Posted April 10, 2010 Share Posted April 10, 2010 My tiny dark brindle tux boy (49 lbs) is gone. Shad's Mom was picked up in Ft Worth & no one knew she was preg. until she had 3 pups, 1 still born, 1 very large, & then my little one. Just before the pups were 3 months old the foster Dad brought to a M&G that my DD & I were running so I walked over to the shopping cart to see the pups & Shad climbed up, wrapped his front legs around my neck to snuggle in and as they say the rest was history. He was the third grey pup for me in 3 years & was twice the trouble Patches & Ebony were together!! He learned to turn on the gas stove, but not to light the burners, swallowed a blood pressure pill that I dropped before I could get it & peroxide didn't bring it up so he spent the week end with our vet. He was always one of the best M&G dogs and a total love. Wed afternoon he fell sideways when trying to greet DD at the gate but we thought one of the other dogs had knocked him over as he got up & seemed ok. Thurs. morning when I let everyone out for the first turn out he fell again & this time he couldn't get up so off to the vet. He had an ear infection but the vet knew it was more than just that by the was he acted so we came home with meds & instruction to watch him carefully. After a potty break Shad went to his favorite crate & never got up again. At 1:30 AM Friday I heard him cry & he couldn't breathe very well so I sat with him & told him if he wanted to go find his brother Patches he could & by 2:00 he was gone. This has been a big shock because of all the dogs that have been in my home Shad was one of the healthiest. Sure doesn't seem right, I only have 3 of my own & 3 fosters now. All the dogs knew something was wrong on Thursday & stayed close to his bed. Yesterday morning Babe ( my broodie foster), Ebony, & Noelle all ran to see him before going outside. Poor Noelle tried to get him up & cried when he didn't. Last night Ebony even slept on my bed as tight to me as she could get with Noelle at our feet. Shad would have turned 8 in July. That was one of his favorite Bible stories when Will was a little fellow. I know it was a shock to Shad's packmates. I do hope they will be ok.
