stlgrey
Ali, had a dental with some extractions done on Friday. We had a rough weekend with her coming out of the anesthesia to start it off. However, this morning when I got up to get ready for work, I noticed several spots of blood (lots) where she was sleeping and on my bed. It was a lot. I took her over to the vet immediately. They admitted her for the day but suggested that she stay for a few days to get the bleeding under control. I have read about a drug on Greytalk used for greyhounds when they have difficulty getting the bleeding undercontrol after spays. Does anyone have the name of the drug and has anyone maybe had a dental situation like this? Looking for some help.
Guest boondog
I have not had this experience, but the name of the drug is Amicar (aminocaproic acid). I hope Ali heals quickly.
tbhounds
Did they run a cbc to check her platelet count??
CaliforniaGreys
Amicar is the drug, available at hospital pharmacies and many regular pharmacies. Tanner had the same problem after a dental, and he had VW but bleeding got under control quickly. Hoping Ali's bleeding also gets under control quickly and easily. Please, try not to worry and keep us posted Quote Missing my little Misty who took a huge piece of my heart with her on 5/2/09, and Ekko, on 6/28/12 For the sick, the lost, and the homeless
stlgrey
I am waiting for the vet to call me back to tell them about Aminocaprio Acid and see if they have it there. If they don't or can't get it, I will need to leave work and have her see by a vet that does our rescues spays, who does have it. Did they run a cbc to check her platelet count?? She had a complete workup before surgery and everything was okay. She apparently ripped all the stitches out and caused the clots to come out. She didn't have any bleeding on Friday or all weekend, until last last night when she ripped out her stitches.

stlgrey
We were able to get the drug for her. The vet called a local pharmacy and I went to get it on my lunch and deliver it to the vet. The had given it to Ali and her bleeding is under control. She will get discharged after I get off work. They will have her on the drug through tomorrow. OMG, what a scary thing to have happen. I am under so much stress right now at work and have developed some very serious chemical allergies lately. Having a sick or hurt dog can make you worry yourself sick. Houndtime
I am so relieved to see that she is better. When Paul had 27 extractions, he was kept for three nights just for observation and "in case" there was a problem after so many teeth being pulled. stlgrey
Ali was discharged after I got off work yesterday. She seemed very tired. I took her over to a friends for a few hours to doggie sit, while I met with my group for my class last night. She was fine all evening. I gave her another dose of the medication and she was laying on my bed with her sissy, Sierra this morning when I left. Everything seems to be fine today as well.
