Not good news.

Roscoe woke me up last night making this horribly loud snorting sounds.. kind of like a mix of gagging, reverse sneezing and difficulty breathing. I got up to help him out and the mass in his throat was much much larger. 4 AM, off to the vet.

Dr took a look and confirmed that it definitely got larger, and now exhibits 'pitting edema'. Swelling extends between the mandible causing the tongue to be raised up. Thus the funny breathing/noises. I kept him there over night so they could watch him and take some x-rays.

Dr calls me at 8 this morning. X-rays show a large soft tissue mass in the region of the soft palate. The mass is occluding a portion of the pharylngeal region causing narrowing of the naso- and oropharynx. There is also a soft tissue enlargement of the retropharyngeal region ventral to C1-2 suggests a mass in this area as well. *Thank god for the vet's notes!* So basically she said there's 2 large masses, one pushing on some blood vessels possibly causing the eye issues? Could be a cyst, tumor or cancer. She referred me to an internal medicine specialist right away.

Roscoe goes in to the specialist at 9:30. Dr also saw on the x-ray that there is swelling of some of the lymphnodes.. one of which he said was odd. Right now Roscoe is getting an ultrasound and fine needle aspiration and biopsy. I'm waiting for a phone call.

Please feel better Roscoe...hugs to you Lisa

Here he is from 6 days ago

MGMarch13b.jpg

oh my baby.. he looks so.. normal. :(

The specialist just called. I can barely remember what he said. I have a headache and I'm so tired. Anyway, the mass was not being cooperative and they were not able to extract enough cells. So he wants to get a little more aggressive and use a larger needle where it takes an actual tissue sample. They will call me later in the day to get him. I honestly don't remember what he said about the ultrasound. :(

Well I'm going to go to work for a while. I have pop art that needs to go to the printers. This will keep me busy.
