Whew, finally - we have poop! We ended up taking her back to the vet last night because she still hadn't had a poop and we were closing in on 72 hours. The vet reccommended what we were expecting, and enema and stoll softener. The inital exam was rough, the Dr now knows what the super-sized GSOD sounds like, it was awful but I think it was 75% fear and 25% pain. The enema worked like a charm after 15 mins - and no yelping. She's almost back to her normal self, needless to say we are all very relieved.

We still don't really know what caused her pain. Why she yelped when trying to poo, why she was in so much pain, whether she'll relapse after all the drugs are finished. For the last few weeks I had been feeling there was something going on with her but the signs were to subtle, it was just a feeling. Perhaps is was a pinched nerve or jig when she should have jagged, it happens to us (humans) too. I just pray this was a one-off and there is no problems going forward. I'll definately be more vigilant from now on.

Thanks everyone.

I'm so thrilled to hear that she had a poop and she's feeling better! Maybe she was yelping when she tried to poop because the poop was all hard and dried out and scratched her on the way down. I've seen that happen to humans when they get constipated.

In this case, poop is a REALLY good thing!

Keep feeling better, sweet girl.

I just do not want to be typing this...

After doing so well over the last few days, last night Frightning started screaming in her bed and went lame on her right front leg. Thankfully, I had just given her a tramedol about an hour previously so by the time we got to the vet she was using the leg and not complaining too much. The vet examined it, it's not swollen or broken and he moved all around making her do all sorts of things but she didn't scream agan. They are just stumped - don't have a clue. Pain in the back leg last week, pain in the front let this week. They say our next stop in the Neurologist. David and I are scared, a few years ago we had a Greyhound with severe neurological issues and went to the specialist every 3 weeks for over two years. We just can't do that again...not emotionally nor financailly. I just wish I knew what the answer was, I hate seeing her in pain.

Sorry to hear she's poorly again. Is it possible that it's a bad neck tweak? That causes a lot of pain without being easy to diagnose.

Has she been tested for TBDs?

I was wondering if she's been tested for a full range of tick borne diseases, too. Not just the Snap4, but a full tick panel.

This might be a good direction to start in. I'll mention it to the vet tonight.

poor thing. I hope she feels better soon.

Did the vet check for impacted feces when she was having the poop issues?

Yes, she was fine and her fecal was not as hard as it would be if she was truly constipated. I think we're going to take the referral for the Neurologist. Our vet says they can not help us further - they just don't know what it is that's causing her so much pain.

I am saddened to read the latest regarding Brightning and continue to have you all in my thoughts. We are hopeful for positive resolution from the Neurologist.
