Here’s his pain med schedule. Please let me know how high I can go still….. 9:00am- Metacam and 2 Tramadol 1:30p- Artemesia supplement 2 Tramadol 5:30p- 2 Tramadol 9:00p- 1 Tramadol 1:00a- Artemsia Supplement and 2 Tramadol Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Lenny weighs 85 lbs and is holding steady at this point. Thank you! Krista and Lenny (Osteo diagnosis- Early January)
GreyPoopon
What's the strength of the Tramadol? Here's what Cora (~65lbs/~30kg) was given at the end: Metacam 35kg dosage (bit extra for her weight) and Tramadol 100mg every 6 hours. She still limped, but she was less unhappy. CaliforniaGreys
If the Tramadol isin't helping at those time intervals you may want to talk to your vet about something stronger. Guest wholovesskunks
I want to say the Tramadol is 50mg tablets.
MP_the4pack
I was told Tramadol came in only one dose.....50 mgs
Burpdog
Towards the end, Mahogany was on 100mg every 4 hours and we added morphine. Morphine was good, but I had to regulate it as it took away her appetite. Quote Diane & The Senior Gang Burpdog Biscuits
Guest MorganKonaAlex
Alex was on Rimadyl and Tramadol. After we maxed out the Tramadol at 100mg 4xday, we added Neurotin (Gabapentin) and that helped.
tbhounds
Yup, I second the idea of adding gabapentin.
GreyPoopon
I was told Tramadol came in only one dose.....50 mgs It may depend on where you are. My vet clinic uses a compounding pharmacy that does (at least) 50 and 100mg tablets. I was given some 10mg capsules from another clinic. Guest GryffinSong
Gryffin is 70ish pounds and gets three 50mg tramadol three times per day. In addition, he gets 3/4 previcox once per day. I'd have to look up the dosage and Merlin's in my lap right now. He limps badly, but is in good spirits, eats and drinks normally, and is happy to go outside. My vet has also prescribed a fentynal (sp?) patch for when he gets worse.
Batmom
It is worth talking to your vet about different pain meds. At the same time, realize that the pain of osteo is horrible and at some point no pain meds you can use will be enough. Sending lots of hugs for you and some gentle scritchies for your sweet pupper. Guest wholovesskunks
Thanks to all of your for your responses! I’m glad to see Gryffin is on 3 tablets of Tramadol at once, it makes me feel less guilty when I give him an extra. We did add Feldene 10mg, every other day to his cocktail of drugs. I think if we are lucky, we might get 2 more weeks with him. I will not let him be in pain so when the time comes, it comes but I want to make sure he is as comfortable as possible in the meantime. Thanks again! Krista
Guest Grhndad
At the end my Lexie was on 150mg tramadol (3 50mg tablets) three times a day along with a 65lb dosage fo Metacam once a day.
Guest Whistle
Alex was on Rimadyl and Tramadol. After we maxed out the Tramadol at 100mg 4xday, we added Neurotin (Gabapentin) and that helped. GreytNut
Argus got 4 50mg Tramadol 4 times a day toward the end when he had osteo. That high of a dose would not be safe for long-term use, but we weren't concerned about long-term effects at that point, so I just gave him as much as I possibly could without killing him. That was the max the vet said a 75 lb. dog could handle. He was also on extended-relief morphine twice daily. If I had it to do over, I would also have asked for an anti-inflammatory such as Deramaxx because I think it would've helped the swelling. Ask your vet, but you can probably increase your dog's dosage, and/or add medications to help alleviate the pain as becomes more problematic. PatricksMom
We're add 200mg a day (split into two doses) of tramadol. My understanding is there is room to go up, but so far that hasn't been necessary. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019).
