Guest welshbec Posted February 19, 2010 Share Posted February 19, 2010 By way of an update for you all, Paco is continuing to really improve. In fact, it is quite startling. He is hardly wobbly at all now - in fact, if you saw him you would have really no idea what has happened. He was running around the garden and jumped off a small wall yesterday! He has started to go out on short walks - when I took him to the beach yesterday he started zigzagging and jumping on me as he wanted to go off lead! His appetite is ferocious and he is drinking a huge amount. And the big thing - he is constantly roaching - so I know he is back to himself. His steroids have already been reduced and there is no noticeable change at all. He has been staying with me, at my parents, as they live very close to where I work and it has been easier to have him supervised. I am taking him home tonight to my house where my partner Anna has missed him terribly. We are going to try and get back into our normal routine from Monday. Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays he is home alone from 12.30pm-5.30pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays he goes to my parents. And he is with us all weekend. As much as I am nervous about leaving him alone, the specialist assured me that this would be fine and he would not hesitate to do so. So fingers crossed for us! Guest welshbec Posted March 2, 2010 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Hi guys just a quick update for you all. Thankfully Paco is doing really well and he has responded to the medication superbly. We have already dropped his dose on the advice of our specialist and are about the drop the steroid dose again and the tramadol completely. His mobility is 100% better - he can still sometimes be a little bit wobbly but hardly anything. His appetite is ferocious. He is going out on longer and longer walks. I have a boy that has been through this and we are now in the process of reducing the steroid dose. I hope that Paco continues to respond to his medications. You have a wonderful support group to help you and that is so important. I want to visit my grand babies over Easter but knew that my boy couldn't be boarded. A good friend stepped forward and will stay at my home and care for all my dogs so that there will be less stress involved. Good luck and keep us posted with updates about Paco. How long has your boy been diagnosed with GME? We are now down to 25mg Prednisolne in the morning and evening and he takes 50mg Zantac for him tummy troubles. He has improved wonderfully but he has rather squitty poos again so will be taking him back to the vets this weekend. hi, Lupo's first episode was 12/09 with the horrible pain and paralysis. We had no idea what was wrong but the vet's treated aggressively with an arsenal of drugs and he improved rapidly,and the pred was discontinued. his second episode was 1/10 with a temp of 108.4 and horrible pain and weakness. The prednisone is now at 10 mg. every other day and Pepcid on the day he gets his pred. I feed raw and take the total amount for the day and split it into 5 feedings. We know how hard it is to face a serious illness with a beloved grey. We have lost two in the past and have two wonderful ones now. Give him a big kiss for us, please!
