Anne Posted February 1, 2010 Share Posted February 1, 2010 When my Phantom had osteo, I gave him enough pain meds to make him comfy. Towards the end I gave more than the "max" novox dose and more than the "max" tramadol as well. I wasn't worried about labs or anything but pain relief. He did better with more meds. Guest GryffinSong Posted February 1, 2010 Share Posted February 1, 2010 I raised his previcox and tramadol to the max yesterday and the vet is preparing more drugs for me which I'll pick up this afternoon. I think he'll be getting a pain patch in addition to the other two, and yes, near the end I don't care how much I have to give him to make him comfortable. He seemed a little better this morning, but the limp is very bad now. He ate his dinner, and still enjoys going outside and getting skritches, so I guess he's tolerating the pain, but it breaks my heart. Thanks for all your kind words. When I got home Gryffin was all excited to see me and bouncing around, so I'm going to hold off on putting the patch on. I'll see how the increased dosage of the other meds do first. cleptogrey Posted February 3, 2010 Share Posted February 3, 2010 emily started to limp on halloween and was in so much pain, i believe her shoulder had a hairline fracture, she was euthanized on jan.2nd. it's an awful and not at all fair. please keep gryffin comfy and remember he has had an excellent life and make sure you can always remember all of the good times. don't let the pain and cancer fill your thoughts and memories. trust me, it was most difficult thinking about where we were going to bury our lovely girl, our yard is our dog's final resting place. good toughts and lots of tissues for you. oh, turkey bacon seemed to be a wonderful item to wrap her pain meds in since it's difficult to pill a dog w/ a slimey mouth- the pain meds do that to their saliva.
