Guest bigorangedog Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Just called the surgeon's office (this receptionist remembered me too - sigh). We're getting worried about Apollo's pain already. He's on Tramadol and Deramaxx, but still limping quite a bit. I asked how quickly we'd be able to schedule his amp if the surgeon thinks it's warranted during our consult on Friday morning. And it turns out they could actually do it that day. So. I sort of feel like I'm going to be sick. My poor, timid, beautiful, sweet boy. I just f-ing hate this. If all his other xrays look clean, I think we're going to go ahead with it. But, boy, I really have no idea whether I'm doing the right thing. I just hope he'll forgive me for putting him through this. And that he'll have a lot of happy days on the other side. Quote
Guest VaGreymom Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Many prayers for you as you go through this difficult time. There is no right or wrong decision, go with what your gut tells you and go with it. You do know what is best for Apollo. No matter what you decide we are always here for you. Quote
MP_the4pack Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Oh I so know what you're going thru. So many people told me not to do that to a 12 yr old. (Diamond had her amp in Oct). I definitely know now that I made the right decision. She's happy. Painfree. Chasing deer. But, Pearl was at OSU last week. My choice was put her down or have a splenectomy done. I still don't know if I did the right thing. She doesn't seem to be doing well. So......you really won't know until post op. And you can only tell yourself, that you are doing thing out of love. They can't ask for more. Quote

queenwinniesmom Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Oh, Jen, I was just reading your blog, and I can understand the doubt and uncertainty you are feeling. But this is the reality that you clearly recognize---cancer is a crapshoot. It doesn't play fair, and it's certainly played a cruel game with you over the last year. But knowing you, you gotta try to fight it with whatever you can. And the amp is your best weapon. Even though he hasn't been with you that long, you know him and understand him. And you love him. And that's why you will do what you can to keep him safe. I wish I could do more, but I can send you and Apollo lots of prayers and white light and hope for a successful surgery and an easy, uneventful recovery. And many more days and months and years together. And Whitey---way to go, small white dog! Isn't he wonderful? BootsyCollins Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 If I could do it all over again, I would have gone with amputation for Argos. If for no other reason than to take away that horrible pain so that the rest of his days, however short or long, would be pain free. I will be thinking many good thoughts for your big orange dog and his mama today.
