Any news on Spartan? Keeping him in my thoughts and prayers.

I need to remember whenever reading a situation like this, we only read one side. In this case, it is from an angry defensive sister, (with all right to be angry and defensive of her sister) getting news from a hysterical, devastated sister (with all right to be hysterical, angry, devastated that her new pup is going through this, and just reeling back from some sort of blow dealt by life).

I am not saying that everything posted here is not true, just looking at the whole picture from another angle and passing judgment on no one, just trying to sort through the emotions for the facts.

Spartan, his mom and aunt are in my prayers, and thank you GFNC for stepping up and helping them.

Hoping for a good update on Spartan.

P.S. My youngest son loves his name. The movie '300' is his absolute all time favorite, and he can't say his name without using the "This is Sparta" accent used in the movie. lol.gif

I certainly hope Spartan is okay and that your sister can work something out with the animal hospital in question. I live in Charlotte and I am 99% sure that I know the hospital you're referring to -- we took one of our grey's there because he had heart issues and they offered specialist services (for cardiology). I know your sister is probably frantic right now and not thinking about any of this, but if it is a pre-existing condition that they should've known about, definitely do talk to management there. They've always been professional when we've dealt with them.

Please wish her the best and know that we're all sending our prayers to her and to her precious pup. Greyhounds are not really considered "specialty" dogs (at least not in my experience) and they're typically pretty darned healthy, but of course, there are the unfortunate exceptions (like our boy with such awful heart problems). Please let us know how they are doing and send me a PM if you're in need of a good vet in Charlotte, we're very happy with where we currently take our greys.

Heard from his owner today and Spartan is going home on Wednesday. CVS has run some more tests and done an ultrasound as well. Ultrasound looked fine. His creatin number is staying at 2.2 but his other numbers are good. Urinalysis looked good too. He will be monitored by a (greyhound savy) vet to make sure the creatin and all doesn't jump. Stool is good and firm :banana and she is going to keep him on the food he is being fed there. It has been good news for Spartan.

The not mentioned chain vet she had taken him to did not understand greyhound numbers and caused panick all around. And CVS is coming through on the $$ side of the equation. So all is good there. In working with CVS the owner has gotten them to put in place some changes with their greyhounds they adopt out.

Owner has been given lots of info on greyhounds and their differences and she has a great vet (my vet :blush ) for ongoing check ups and care.

Thanks for every one's concern for Spartan! Your well wishes and prayers come through again.

Good news all around. If the (chain) vet is responsible for some or all of these costs due to ignorance of the breed, there should be refunds in the works.

I put Zim through a battery of tests when I 1st got her due to this same issue. Cr=2.0. I specifically asked my vet if it was related to the breed & he said no. I spent $$$ on a KD diet. After much research on my own (Dr Stack/Greyhound gang) I realized this can be normal for the breed. I doubt I could have ever gotten my money back. I transferred to a different vet right away. Spartan seems to be on the right track & hopefully will conitnue in the future.

A big thank you to the GFNC team in Charlotte. I know there was a lot more behind the scenes action going on on behalf of a dog that didn't even come from your group. Good bunch of people and now a good support group for Spartan and his family.
