ShantisMom Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Good Ole Miss Shanti strikes again. She is hypothyroid and has been since I got her 5 years ago. In those 5 years it never changed. Now it is tanking. She was at .07 on .5mg of Soloxine 2x a day. We increased her dose of Soloxine to .75. Her test came back now at .06. I guess this is something common in a dog that is deathly ill, but we don't consider her that. Sure, she has her issues. Has anyone had a grey do this? Did you get any answers to what was causing it? My vet is calling a specialist tomorrow. Shanti, my platinum dog! At the rate she is going she will earn me a ticket to Hawaii in no time! Quote The Girls
JAJ2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Sunshine is only 56lbs and is taking .0c in the am and .0f in the PM. Her last T4 was at .0r!! Vet saya as long as she's active healthy and a silly puppy that we weren't going to worry about it. Sunshine is only 56lbs and is taking .09 in the am and .06 in the PM. Her last T4 was at .03!! Vet says as long as she's active healthy and a silly puppy that we weren't going to worry about it. Quote ------ Jessica
ShantisMom Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Well Shanti is happy, but she is not a healthy dog. She has Valley Fever she is battling at the moment. The rest of her issues are on the back burner for now. She is perkier than she has been in years. Her thigh hair has started growing back on the higher dose. She is eating better, but dropping weight. She is down to 58 pounds. Quote The Girls
seeh2o Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 When I was lucky enough to meet Shanti late last summer at the beach house she was quite a little sprite! I sure hope the vet can figure out what's going on with her thyroid. TinyMityMo Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 make sure you are drawing the blood at the proper time interval after she takes her meds. My vet told me it needs to be 6-8 hours after but the meds actually have an even shorter half life than that. My vet told me it needs to be 6-8 hours after but the meds actually have an even shorter half life than that. I put the medicine in cheese and in her mouth so I know she got it (and not one of the other dogs). The test is run 4-6 hours after according to my vet. Interesting the difference. Hers have always been in the 4-6 hour range. Never so bad. When I was lucky enough to meet Shanti late last summer at the beach house she was quite a little sprite! I sure hope the vet can figure out what's going on with her thyroid. Don't think she has given up any of her diva ways! She is even more full of herself these days! Ha! Her behavior does not reflect her medical numbers. She has more sass then ever!!! Quote The Girls
greypuppyluv Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Has there been any added stress going on? I would think that might cause a problem or maybe if there's some sort of change going on with her VF. Either way, give her and extra from me. ShantisMom Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Only on our wallet. Nope, nothing new for Shanti. She is playing a ton these days with Asti. Walking more and more on all 4 around the house. Her VF is not improving as of the last tests. She did go back to a positive titer (IGG or IGM, can't remember off the top of my head). She has flip flopped on that before and it did not mess with her thyroid tests. Quote The Girls
Guest FreddyGirl Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Dr. Dodds advised me that to test the blood, it musr be drawn within 2 hours of taking the soloxine. Quote
