The cancer had made him so weak he collapsed on the way outside this morning, we were able to get him back on his feet but he could hardly stand by himself, all his strength was gone. We were told by our vet either a tumor had ruptured internally or the tumor on his heart had become so large it was interfering with the function. We made the terrible decision to let him go, it just wasn’t fair to him anymore. Even though I knew this day was going to come nothing could have prepared me for the complete heart break I feel without him. I remember adopting him two and a half short years ago like it was yesterday. My husband and I went to in hopes to adopt a small young female, but somehow a big old brindle male stole our hearts that day. We picked him up one week later and found out that he had waited nearly two years to find his home. It used to really bother me how so many people could over look him but now I know it’s because we were just meant to find each other. It wasn’t always easy with Hobbes, he was very withdrawn and fearful in the beginning. In time a deep bond formed between us, and slowly a happy, playful, sweet boy emerged from that once shy, scared dog. The little quirks that used to stress me out became the things I cherished most about him. He taught me so much, and gave me so much, but asked for so little in return. He loved the simple things in life like a rub behind the ears, a nice soft bed, a car ride with the windows down, and of course a good run with his friend . He was my cuddle bum, and would cuddle for hours if I let him. Sometimes he would place his paw ever so gingerly on my forehead almost as if he just wanted to keep contact with us as he fell asleep. I think that will be one of the things I miss the most. He was a truly wonderful dog and a great friend, and will be missed so much by my husband and I and of course by Wally his brother and friend. I know as long as my heart beats, Hobbes will hold a special place inside it. Run Free Hobbes, we love you more then words can express. This is the last picture I took of him. He fought with dignity and with grace and he will be so missed by so many of us. You, DH and Wally will be in my prayers.
