I stopped with Frontline and switched to Advantage but will give Leia winter months off (which now are like Dec to Feb due to climate changes). I used to stop heartworm treatment over the winter months but the vet recommended this year that I continue it year round, so I will be doing that. For fleas, I don't use anything unless the dogs are going somewhere really outdoors-y, like camping. Their coats are short enough I can see a flea as soon as it lands on them and I also regularly check them over to make sure there is nothing crawling around on them.
