Skin Rash

Hi all! It's been forever since I posted on here. But my grey is in need of some help. Larry is our 2 year old grey. He is white ticked brindle. His undercarriage is pink with very little hair. He has developed a rash there that has gotten worse over the last week. Now there is no hair where the rash is. We haven't changed anything like diet or detergent. It doesn't seem to bother him but when I rub and scratch the rash his leg goes crazy like it is the most wonderful thing in the world. I am going to take him to the vet on Monday but in my research it has come to my attention that it could be scabieis which is very contagious to humans. I have two kids who need to know to stay away from the dog until we get him fixed up if that is the case. I could post pics if that would help to identify. Thanks everyone. Forgot to mention the rash showed up a couple of days after I got him back from the kennel.

Does not look like scabies, looks like an infection of the skin, Scabies looks like there are little lines, or roads leading around on the skin, and it would be in more than one place, they spread fast

Could be a reaction from something in the Kennel, i. e. cleaning solution, detergent or a bug bite. Do you think cool compresses would help?

My Mom swears by this: blend Cottage Cheese until creamy and place on red skin, cover with cloth for about 15 minutes. It cools the area and helps the redness...

Good luck and hope it is nothing serious! :getwell

It looks like a contact dermatitis of some sort. What was he laying on at the kennel? It could be something they were using. If his leg goes like crazy, it's probably itching him especially when you rub it. You could try some Benadryl, 50mg. to see if that takes some of the redness away.

I also would give him Benadryl and keep that appt on Monday and before you put anything topical on it, best to find out exactly what it is and get something from your vet.

From the pictures, it looks like it'll need a steroid topical but "looks like" and "is" are two different things

We brought his bed to the kennel but who knows what all he could have gotten into there. You all are making me feel better about it. Now I'm not so worried about it being anything really serious. Hopefully the vet can give him something for it. Thanks everyone.

Doc said it was allergic reaction that got infected. Gave us antibiotics and antibiotic spray with cortisone in it. His chest looks so much better today. Thanks all!
