Guest Greensleeves
So Jasmi had her ultrasound this morning, and it had the best possible outcome: no masses, which means no cancer and no polyps. They didn't end up needing to do the cystoscopy, which means she didn't need anaesthesia, which is always a good thing! They offered to do her entire abdomen while she was there, so we took them up on that, and everything looks great! They did, however, find bladder stones... which means surgery. So I think I'm prematurely and irrationally relieved at the moment. Still, our regular vet apparently does this surgery all the time, and he's very comfortable doing it on Jasmine (and we're very comfortable having him operate on her). Her mom had bladder stones, as well (though they never bothered her); we only learned about them in the ultrasound that showed her malformed kidneys, just before she died. Anyway, they've told us that this is not an emergency, and we can wait a few weeks to do the surgery. Normally we wouldn't, but this week has been so utterly insane (our car accident and my hospital stay), and next week DH has a business trip, plus we're having houseguests... so we're going to let the schedule ease up a little, let Jazzie's infection clear up, let my anemia get better so I'm thinking straighter, and go into this when things have calmed down for us. NevadasMom
A friends Lasa pup just had the bladder stone surgery done & did very well. A little short term incontinence, but no other problems. Best wishes.... Quote Carol-Glendale, AZ Trolley (Figsiza Trollyn) Nevada 1992-2008...always in my heart
Guest Energy11
Glad they found the problem. Bladder stones ARE common. Good thinking to let her infection clear up and get her stronger before the surgery! Good luck with this! D
Guest SoulsMom
Like I said in your other thread, Archie (non-grey) had bladder stones too. I waited probably 2 months before he had his surgery. Because Archie's bladder was full of polyps he had to have 1/3 of it removed. He had some leakage issues for about a year before his muscles got strong enough again. Poor little bug---he'd 'dribble' in his sleep and wake up so embarassed ETA: I'm confused, I thought no bacteria was found in her urine=no infection. At least that's what I was told when Archie had blood in his pee but no bacteria Edited May 20, 2009 by SoulsMom
Guest Greensleeves
Well, my initial thread was written just before I was admitted to the ER in an anemic crisis (), and I know I was missing some details, so I'm not surprised you're confused by what I posted! Doc either found or failed to find something in the urinalysis that made him think her body wasn't making "the proper immune response" to any infection that might have been there. The specialists this morning took a draw right from her bladder, and they're culturing it to see exactly what's going on, infection-wise. Plus, since she's had the infections repeatedly over the last two years, they're pretty sure the stones are causing them. Apparently the bacteria becomes embedded in the stones, and as they move around and crumble against each other or whatever, release more bacteria into the bladder, causing more infection. Thanks for the warning about the incontinence issues; sister Jenny is dealing with that now, so Jazz will be in good company.
