How Can I Tell What Is Going On?

Tankala has been panting and pacing for hours. Before I came downstairs, he was whinning a bit.

He lays down for a few minutes here and there, tries to arrange his bedding, gets up and starts pacing again. All the while panting. It's not hot in here. Seems to be discomfort.

I've run hands down legs, checked paws, neck, tummy - he's not showing any other signs of discomfort.

Any ideas? I know it's cryptic but it is escalating.

^^ ditto. Esp the gums. Any tenderness when you press gently on his belly? When was his last poop? Prajna will pace and pant if he gets a little constipated.

Could he have pulled a muscle? Check all around the shoulders. Feel down towards the chest and under towards the armpit. I had the same issues with my collie over and over, and he would pull a muscle under the shoulder towards the armpit, after bouncing around and coming down hard on his front legs. I found the spot that hurt, as he turned his head quickly as if to bite me.

How's he doing this morning???

His poop is fine, pee fine, I checked his stomach, muscles, joints, neck - all of that down to his paws. He didn't let on to anything.

He's not affraid of thunder/lightening/rain storms.

He seems to be resting comfortably this morning. Not sure I'm going to the hike planned for today.

Glad he is resting. May have just been an upset stomach/gas. That is very uncomfortable. I wouldn't do the hike today. Good Luck!
