Guest SandOSU98
To make a long story short, Colby's been back and forth to the vet to the tune of over $1000 so far with no conclusive diagnosis for his vomiting and diarrhea problem. He also has roundworms. The back story is in this thread. He's been on a fast for 24 hours, plus the time he was eating before that. He's supposed to be eating the bland diet but this dog will not eat. He will drink water. I had to give him 500mg of Flagyl on an empty stomach but he's also on Cerenia, Pepcid, and Sucralfate so I figured it *should* be okay, plus the e-vet instructed me to. Problem is he is on Panacur too, and it's powder form so I have to give it to him with food. How do I get him to take it? How long will he starve himself like this? Anybody have any experience? If roundworms are causing the GI problems, I've got to get this dewormer down somehow (he has had a round of Pyrantel already but the vet wanted to switch him to something stronger). I'm worried sick about him, although both the vet and e-vet don't seem to think his problems are indicative of an emergency situation. Batmom
Mix the powder with a little chilled peanutbutter or cream cheese, form into a ball, and stuff it down his throat like a pill. Hopefully the other meds will make his tummy feel better and he will eat soon. Guest CDNgreys
I went thru everything in my kitchen to get my dog to take medicine. Baby food worked for a bit. I even hid one of his pills in some cake batter!!!! Who would have thought I'd have to go that far out in left field to get my guy to eat a pill!!! Tough times call for bizarre measures. I sure hope you can find something to stimulate his palate and get him on the mend. I've got my fingers crossed.

Guest Energy11
Yes, it most certainly COULD be the roundworms, irritating his GI tract. How to get the meds down? Maybe you could crush them up into a powder, and mix with LOW SODIUM chicken or beef brooth, and give, using one of those droppers you can get in the drug store, which are used to administer meds to babies. These droppers have pretty big openings, and, like one of the other posters suggested, maybe baby food (strained), ... I believe you COULD get this through the dropper. At least with brooth, even plain yogert, etc., you could get something into the dog, even if you have to use a dropper. I have heard of some people using a turkey baster, too, and just gently squeezing it into the sides of thier mouths. Good luck with this, and maybe, once you get rid of those nasty worms, your baby will be on the mend! D
Guest SandOSU98
You guys are awesome! Thanks for the suggestions. I have the peanut butter on hand so I am going to give that a try first. It was his favorite before he got sick If that doesn't work, it's off to the store for some broth.

Guest SandOSU98
I finally did get him to eat some... a piece of pepperoni, some raw hamburger and then some cooked hamburger with just a little bit of rice. He picked around most of the rice but at least he ate something so I'll take it.
KF_in_Georgia
Consider getting empty capsules (try your nearest pharmacist) and put the panacur in that. Then pill him with those, especially if the peanut butter or whatever else you have to use might be upsetting his stomach.
