Guest greytmonty
The IHC testing came back today from Antech, the original lab that diagnosed him with Lymphoma. Dr. Couto didn't agree and so the tissue was sent for special staining tests. The results are: NO LYMPHOMA!!!! Monty had a plasma cell tumour, which is usually benign, does not require further treatment, and often is a one time thing. The onco vet and I spoke briefly. He is going to see her next week to do a final ultrasound, to make sure the two lymph nodes that "lit up" last time, when he had an infection, are now normal. If so, we will have that as a baseline, stop the chemo (as of today!!!), and just keep a little closer eye on him than for a dog who never had such a tumour. YAY YAY YAY YAY. I am so lucky to have something happy to post in H and M. It has been an awful year for so many friends here on GT. thanks for all the support! Guest greytmonty
We had given a small donation to OSU to thank them for providing his chemo. It looks like I might be able to afford another donation!!!! Well, at some point soon........ all of this has cost a fortune. Antech may refund our charges for the IHC testing. that is great if that happens.

Guest greytmonty
Here is some information on plasmacytomas from a vet website Canine (muco)cutaneous plasmacytomas are mostly benign [52] and thus differ from both multiple myelomas [28, 67] and extramedullary plasmacytomas of internal organs, which often metastasise [29, 66]. After surgical excision of (muco)cutaneous plasmacytomas, dogs have remained tumour-free for long periods [12], although metastasis to lymph nodes has been reported in a few cases [47]. Whether these metastases originated from primary (muco)cutaneous plasmacytomas or from multiple myeloma remains unclear, because tests were not carried out to exclude the possibility of primary multiple myeloma. The relationship between the localisation or cell type of the (muco)cutaneous plasmacytomas and their biological behaviour have been investigated to determine the prognosis of these tumours [47]. The clinical outcome of cutaneous plasmacytomas is not influenced by either anatomical site or histological appearance. However, well-differentiated tumours are most often found in the skin of the lip and the ear, whereas the poorly differentiated tumours preferentially affect the skin of the digits [5]. Results from one study suggested less benign behaviour for plasmacytomas with the polymorphous-blastic cell type [47], whereas in another study it was concluded that almost all cases had a good prognosis (author's observation).
