Amoxicilin Side Effect

Ace went in for a dental yesterday (Monday). His teeth and gums are healthy so there were no extractions. Unfortunately, both of my IGs had to have some teeth pulled. The thing I'm noticing that's different between the two breeds is that the IGs have bounced back rather quickly - it's as if nothing ever happened! Ace, on the other hand, wouldn't eat a small dinner post-dental. He even refused to eat his breakfast this morning. He did finally eat a bit later. I had to wrap his amoxicilin capsule in some cheese and he ate that just fine. It appears that Ace is just taking longer to recover from the dental than the other dogs.

So my main concern is that now Ace is constantly drinking and needing to go outside. We're talking every twenty minutes. Is this a normal side effect of the amoxicilin?

Could be, or could be side effect from the anaesthesia experience. Does your vet give IV fluids during the procedure? That can help.

If you think it's the amoxicillin, try giving one regular strength pepcid (10mg famotidine) twice a day -- will help settle his tummy.

When my Phantom had a dental last September, the day after he must of gone out 15 times. I also saw some tiny little blood clots (REALLY tiny) and then the next day he was fine and back to going out 3 times a day. Vet said it was the anesthesia. Hopefully Ace will be fine in a day or two. : )
