Guest Leah
This week I received a call from some friends who adopted one of the greys I fostered. Last weekend he was in his yard when a cat got into the yard and bit him on the leg. Monday the leg was looking bad so they took him to the vet for antibiotics. Tuesday it was worse so back to the vet. Wednesday there was swelling and hair and skin were coming off of the leg. They hooked him to IV fluids and antibiotics. The vet called around to other vets and did some research as he has never seen anything like this before. They came to a diagnosis of Sweets Syndrome. Friday they had some antibiotics flown in and started him on those. The vet told them this is like toxic shock syndrome in people. The swelling is throughout his body and the skin and fur are also coming off of his stomach. The places without fur look like third degree burns. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I am trying to help them in any way I can, but I have no idea what they are dealing with. They are watching him over the weekend to see if the new antibiotics are working. Please keep all of them in your thoughts. They love their boy so much and he is such a sweetheart Edited January 20, 2009 by Leah

Guest Leah
Any news on how this boy is doing? No news yet. I am planning to call them tomorrow and see how the weekend went. I forgot to mention that the vet is doing a culture of the leg. It will take about a week to get the results back.
