Guest argolola Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Rudy's coat had huge white flakes coming off at the vet's office yesterday, plus a very dry and rough coat, with some hair shedding. He and Lola have been on grizzly salmon oil for 6 weeks. He shows no improvement, however, Lola's hair is so soft and long, it's starting to curl up on her legs...lol. Any suggestions? Thanks so much! Quote
racindog Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I had one greyhound with "dandruff' white flakes coming off. Lipiderm cured him. It is a patented type of fish oil I think but I have to admit that it did work-couldn't tell you why-I wonder myself. Quote
Guest SoulsMom Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I'm curious too, anything low-fat, not fish oil based that can help? After Soul's HGE illness we're off the fish oil. . . . or anything topical that can help? Quote
Guest ArtysPeople Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I really like Earthbath's between-bath spritzes: http://www.earthbath.com/between.html It's like a leave-in conditioner that really helped with Arty's flakies last winter. Moisturized very nicely without being oily. I don't personally like the Mango Tango scent, but that may just be me. The eucalyptus/mint is my favorite. Quote
CaliforniaGreys Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I swear by EicoaDerm which has made a huge difference in both Misty and Wayne. Of course Misty is on Soloxine and I know that made a big difference for her. I took Wayne off it just to check and there was a really big difference so I'll never do that again. But it showed me that it really works. Quote Missing my little Misty who took a huge piece of my heart with her on 5/2/09, and Ekko, on 6/28/12 For the sick, the lost, and the homeless
Guest Greyt_dog_lover Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 When I had a blue doberman, she had horrible coat issues. We would put one raw egg in her dinner each night. I dont know how this would work with your "low fat" hound (soulsmom), but it did help with the skin issues and gradually her coat did improve, but not nearly what the other color dobermans coats would look like. It is a genetic problem with the blues. Quote

IndyandHollyluv Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 My hounds get Heska F.A. granules mixed in with one of their meals -- www.heska.com -- it is an Omega 3 and 6 fatty acid supplement (looks like flax meal). Has done wonders for my brindle's coat, which felt like a scrub brush when I adopted him. Quote

Blue dobes are actually silver in color, just like a "blue" greyhound. Quote
greysmom Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Dude has a dandruff problem when he's under stress or very nervous - like at the vets. The white flakes really stand out on his black coat. Interestingly, our black Great Dane also had this problem. Never happened with either when we are/were at home or doing something fun away from home. greysmom Quote Chris - Mom to: Felicity (DeLand), and Andi (Braska Pandora) siggy by Chris Harper, on Flickr Angels: Libby (Everlast), Dorie (Dog Gone Holly), Dude (TNJ VooDoo), Copper (Kid's Copper), Cash (GSI Payncash), Toni (LPH Cry Baby), Whiskey (KT's Phys Ed), Atom, Lilly
