Oh my, Monty!

Karen, years ago our first mutt girl, Rosie, had a fast growing lipoma in that same location. While usually you can ignore a lipoma, this one was found to have grown a "tail". It wasn't cancerous but could have gotten to be a size that crowded that abdomen.

That looks exactly like my Dakotas' lump (they called it a fatty tumor)... which was nothing.

Sending hugs to you all!

Not to scare you, but is it kind of hard and moves around a bit? That looks like the lump Trevor had which turned out to be OS, but in a different location, his was on his ribcage but came up suddenly and was the shape of a golfball....hoping that isn't the case......

If they aren't positive what it is, get an xray and a needle aspirate.......

Sending lots of good thoughts! Somehow I missed this thread. I'm sorry! I will be keeping my fingers very firmly crossed that it's nothing serious and nothing to worry about.

That's an odd place though, is there any bone behind it? It's a little hard to tell on the pic....

Definitely get an xray, and a good one. My vet didn't get an all over view of the area and couldn't see the mass behind it. I didn't know until 2 weeks later at a specialist what was going on with a better xray machine. And sometimes an aspirate won't show anything either, as ours didn't. I found this out later...

Hoping it's not that though and sending lots of prayers......could it be a hematoma, maybe he banged into something pretty hard?

I'll join the it's just a lipoma chant!!

The way our vet explained it, they can double in size quite often, but when the lipoma is only a couple of millimeters, it can double and double and double and you don't even notice. When it starts to be in the couple of inches range, the doubling seems fast and huge--just like you've described.

All that said, our vet removes lipomas when they start to grow fast like that.

No experience with lumps but plenty of experience sending power prayers to you and Monty! How do the stitches look? If they look dry and the skin looks good, can you sneak Monty in early? Our vet usually says 10 to 14 days for stitches.
