Guest Pipi5
Do you live in a house? I had Terminix come out & spray the inside & outside of my house/yard when I had fleas & ticks. If you live in an apartment, the resident manager needs to have the entire complex sprayed. For your doggie, I'd recommend Frontline. At my other house, my husband had a load of sand brought in to backfill our retaining wall, it was filled with every breed of tick known to man...oh good God...it was awful. Terminix did the job on them too. At this house, the neighborhood had a bad problem with fleas & unfortunately some tick travelers snuck in when I moved...but Terminix did the job. Batmom
Advantage treats only fleas, not ticks. In your position, I would call in the professionals to treat the house and yard, and switch the dogs over to Frontline Plus. Basically how it works is that if a tick bites the dog it's mouth parts are paralyzed and it cannot attach. (and any ticks that are already attached will start to fall off). The ticks then die within 24 hrs. But, this collar cannot be used if there are cats in the house.

Guest SoulsMom
I think the fear is that the cats may lick the collar and be poisioned along with the ticks. The vet also said not to use it on dogs that play by "mouthing" each other's necks, and when in doubt remove the collar when unsupervised.
