rascalsmom
I took Buddy in for his second recheck. You may recall that during his first recheck (for corneal ulcer) the vet told me it was healing well, but she noticed another area that was taking up the dye, and she didn't know what that was all about. Well, that area is STILL there, and now she sees vascularization. She thinks he may be developing pannus. Now he is on the antibiotic drops (ciloxin) as well as drops for the pannus (tacrolimus). She did say that this would be a very atypical presentation of pannus....where it started with an ulcer in the lower part of the eye, but the pannus seems to be developing in the UPPER part of the eye. I'd appreciate any opinions, experiences, etc....I was so hoping that today would be his final visit to see the specialist. Quote Phoebe (Belle's Sweetpea) adopted 9/2/13. patricia
Sending prayers. I hope it is not pannus...but thank goodness there are eye drops to help that condition. rascalsmom
OK. Buddy has been getting the tacrolimus drops....he has had maybe three doses. He seems to be rubbing at his eye A LOT MORE!! This is so frustrating..... They told me to let them know if it bothered him; how long do you give it? I worry that he will cause damage to the healing ulcer, or to yet another area.... Quote Phoebe (Belle's Sweetpea) adopted 9/2/13. CaliforniaGreys
Hoping that Connie(Ckruzan) sees this as she's going through a lot with Carl's eyes and seems to have a good handle on what's going on Quote Missing my little Misty who took a huge piece of my heart with her on 5/2/09, and Ekko, on 6/28/12 For the sick, the lost, and the homeless
ZoomDoggy
Yikes, that does sound odd. Any chance that there's another ophthalmologist you could see for a second opinion? I'm sorry your boy is going through this. Quote ~Aimee, with Flower, Alan, Queenie, & Spodee Odee! And forever in my heart: Tipper, Sissy, Chancy, Marla, Dazzle, Alimony, and Boo. Guest ss556
alan has atypical pannus, I was told. He was on a few different meds, tacro irritated him and we discontinued that. He is on Sodium Prednisolone Phosphate drops 1x daily. Been on this for years. So far, so good.
Guest greytmonty
Monty too has pannus. We tried two different versions of cyclosporine (drops and then cream) as he had iatrogenic Cushings at one time (don't ask) and the opth vet didn't want to keep him on Pred drops for the rest of his life. he HATED the cylcosporine, he rubbed his eyes, squinted, rubbed his head on his bed, and looked miserable!!! Therefore he is back on the Pred drops, but he has responded well and now only needs a drop in each eye Mon, Wed, and Fri. Good luck. Sirocco_Nikki
Sirocco has been well-controlled with prednisolone and cyclosporine in corn oil drops for several years now. (one drop of each twice a day.) It took some time (and a couple steroid injections directly into the eye) to get his under control. His opthamologist said his case was typical, for a german shepherd. Good Luck!
