Guest GreytMuse
Steven was very ill 3 weeks ago (Fever of Unknown Origin was the final diagnosis), but he had been very healthy, bouncy and happy since he had recovered. Last night the symptoms started reappearing -- panting, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy. The internal specialist warned this might happen if there was something ( a mass) we missed with the ultrasounds and x-rays. I am so, so scared what we might learn now. The specialist is waiting for us to come in. My heart is so heavy, and I am trying hard to not be worried about my sweet boy. Please spare a good thought for Steven's health, and courage for me. I am feeling so depressed. I just want to curl up, sleep and forget... Update: 10/30 We are transferring Steven to a specialist in Dallas so he can be observed 24-7. Bloodwork all normal, except for elevated albumin lvls, consistent with dehydration, and low platelet (145K) count. We did x-rays which showed massive amounts of fluid in his stomach, so they weren't very good x-rays. The sonogram showed lesions (? they think) on his pancreas, and confirmed all of the fluid. The doctor took out some of the fluid from his belly, and it was red with pus in it. It should have been clear, so we have some sepsis going on. The white blood cell count in that sample was literally off the charts. Fortunately there were no cancer cells seen. Tentative diagnosis is pancreatitis, but to what degree we aren't sure yet. They'll stabilize him today, give fluids and antibiotics, and do a quantitative pancreatitis test. Interestingly enough, we did the 'snap' test for pancreatitis twice last time he was sick, and it was negative both times. Please keep sending your positive thoughts, I do so appreciate every one of them. Edited November 1, 2008 by GreytMuse

Guest GreytMuse
I just spoke with the vet to check on Steven, and how his night was. It looks as if it is not pancreatitis, but most probably a tumor in his stomach. The PLI (pancreas test) was fine.
