Guest brit1
My non grey has a nasty split between two toes on a hind foot. Its not infected but its been a couple of weeks and not completely healing as he keeps licking it. I went to vet today and got some liquid bandage to put on once a day, he suggested a cone but my dog would go ballistic with a cone on. Is there a good way to wrap this area so he can't get at it? Thanks for any suggestions anne Edited October 29, 2008 by brit1
PatricksMom
These are awful to get to heal--Patrick has 2, 1 was from a cyst removal and was left to heal open, 1 tear that we had stiched. What you want to do is put a bunch of neosporin in there, and gently wrap it with some gauze then vet wrap, top with a baby sock. Try some bitter apple if you need it to keep him from licking. If that doesn't work, I don't know the breed, but is a bite-not collar possible? Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). greysmom
And try and keep his foot dry. Copper just had a tear between two toes that had 2 stitches put in. They were supposed to come out at 2 weeks but we left them in another week. And try to keep him fairly quiet so there's no strain on the foot/toe area. greysmom Quote Chris - Mom to: Felicity (DeLand), and Andi (Braska Pandora) siggy by Chris Harper, on Flickr Angels: Libby (Everlast), Dorie (Dog Gone Holly), Dude (TNJ VooDoo), Copper (Kid's Copper), Cash (GSI Payncash), Toni (LPH Cry Baby), Whiskey (KT's Phys Ed), Atom, Lilly
Stoney
Ditto the "Neosporin, gauze pad, gauze wrap, baby sock" combo. It's been a standard routine in our house and has always worked eventually. Be aware that foot webbing takes a LOT of time to heal. Quote ClayGreys
Guest brit1
thanks for the great help everyone. Today I used a cotton sport sock taped at top and turned over top and then I had a brilliant idea and cut the toe out of an infant sock and used it as a "sleeve". So far all has stayed on for several hours so will see how it goes. Btw I used horse vet wrap over a sock last night and for some reason he took a liking to it and not only chewed it off his leg but managed to get a hold of the whole roll and was enjoying a good chomp on that as well anne Ditto the "Neosporin, gauze pad, gauze wrap, baby sock" combo.
