First Aid Kit..

I'm trying to get our first aid kit in good working order, with dosages and uses for the different items. We're leaving the dogs with my parents for a week and a half when were on our honeymoon. I know there was a great thread a while ago with details, but I can't find it in a search because I can't seem to search first aid because aid is only 3 letters. I seem to remember doing it before, so it must be something I'm doing wrong this time! can anyone help with what I need, and dosages for things like bendryl (liquid and pill), pepto bismol, peroxide to induce vomiting, etc. I've got lots of vet wrap, bandages, extra socks, tshirt, shorts, booties, polysporin, bag balm. I'll get some syringes, gloves, thermometer (we always just feel the inside of their ears, but I shoudl get one to have handy in case my parents need it), scissors, etc. Oh, and I have some saline for cleaning wounds too. I'd like to make a list of dosages and emergency #'s for the Evet in their town and a vet close by (we live 2 hours away), and a friend whos offered to help them if they have questions. Anything else?

Thanks!!!

I agree about the search function. I cannot find anything anymore. It doesn't seem to work really...but I know it used to since I used to use it a lot. Maybe Trudy can fix this?

As for you current supplies...sounds pretty good to me!! I can't think of anything else....besides guaze...maybe muzzle....nail clippers....maybe something to stop the bleeding if a nail breaks....

benadryl--1mg/lb of body weight (I would calculate it out for your dogs ahead of time for your parents)

Buffered Asprin--1 325mg pill for a greyhound

Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). Godspeed Patrick (28 April 1999 - 5 August 2012), Murphy (23 June 2004 - 27 July 2013), Leo (1 May 2009 - 27 January 2020), and Henry (10 August 2010 - 7 August 2020), you were loved more than you can know.

one would think that a list of first aid items would be a sticky "Pinned", just like the list of doctors, or "grade of dog kibbles"... hmm, first aid VS dog food....

Activated charcoal would be useful perhaps. And something to make them vomit.

I've read here some people using hydrogen peroxide. I don't have the doses of either handy (I'm at work and will try to look it up).

My dog over the weekend managed to sneak up on a table and ate an enormous amount of fudge my mother just made(sugar, condensed milk, butter and loads of chocolate). She had induced vomiting and charcoal from the vet, but those might be useful supplies to have available for your own kit too.

(who now knows that activated charcoal vomit cleans up from carpeting better than she would have expected)

edited to add an emesis link from aspca..including hydrogen peroxide use...Link
