Guest Kate Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 (edited) Hi Everyone, I'd like some advice please, my three year old girl is having problems with something that looks like bites - on her tummy and inner thighs front and rear, within days these few bites turn into a full blown rash with chicken pox type pustules. She has been to the vets on a number of occasions over the last 3 months he gives her anti biotics and steroids. It makes her better but it keeps happening again - has anyone got any idea what I can do to stop this Edited October 9, 2008 by Kate Quote
Guest GreytMuse Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Welcome to GreyTalk, sorry it's a problem that's brought you here, but you'll find some of the wisest GH owners anywhere! More intelligent folks will come along soon, I'm sure, but in the meantime, I'll start with a few questions! What do you feed your pup? Supplements? Does this happen during certain times of the year more than others? Have you tried changing cleaners/detergents, etc? Quote

Hello and thank you for your quick response - this has been her first summer with us as we only adopted her last December. She has cereal for breakfast and greyhound and lurcher kibble with home made chicken stock and any scraps for dinner. Her skin was ok apart from motheaten elbows until the summer months. Detergents don't seem to affect it either way. I think its some kind of flea thing as she runs in fields but I haven't got a clue how to fix it for her.... and you KNOW that she keeps giving me that 'make it better' look Quote
Guest GreysAndMoreGreys Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Sure does sound like some type of insect bite or fleas or some such. When you take her out running in the fields might try some sort of bug repellent. Also if she's not on some sort of flea and tick treatment you might want to try that as well. Frontline, Advantix or some such. All of this won't be a fix it for what is going on right now but may help prevent it happening in the future Quote

Guest Kate Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Hi - I have to go home now - if anyone has any ideas please leave a message on our girl's site www.mygreyhound.me.uk - thank you Kate Quote
IndyandHollyluv Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Hi Kate - will try to post to site later today or tomorrow. Don't know all the specifics, but sounds like it could be a staph infection. My Indy went through a vicious cycle of very, very expensive treatment for allergies - antibiotics, antihistamines, dietary changes - for several years with a specialist. Repeated staph infections in his groin, on chest, thighs. I finally insisted on a thyroid re-check with regular vet - levels were borderline normal (can't recall which ones). Since nothing else was working, I suggested we try thyroid meds. Anyway, within 1-2 months after we started him on the meds -- all skin issues and infections resolved. Quote
