Guest Spencers_Greyt Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Hi All - Spencer's story is here. At the moment he is totally incontinent but I'm able to get him outside for the diarreah. I have 2 belly bands and I have plastic tarp over his beds with lots of sheets and towels. Needless to say I have been doing laundry non-stop since this started happening Thurs. night. I was wondering if anyone has a good place to buy more belly bands and/or other ideas to keep Spencer from leaking all over everything. I feel bad for him because he has no idea he's doing it but the poor guy is wet all the time. I'm just trying to keep him as comfortable as possible. Thanks in advance! Quote
silverfish Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Poor Spencer. I can't help with belly bands, but when Jim was leaky, I used to buy disposable puppy pads to put in the likey places, including under the cushion on his bed. If you need a larger size, you can buy (at least in the UK) the same kind of thing intended for toddlers' beds. Nice, big sheets of absorbent paper with plastic backing. kikibean Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 When my friend's dog was on Pred and having a lot of accidents she had great success with putting a Poise pad in the bellyband. They absorb a lot of urine and also help keep the dog dry. Target sells mattress pads that are flat, not fitted, that are waterproof. We use those on the floor for Mimi. I think they run about $8.99 and are almost the size of a twin mattress. Guest Elcyion Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Do you know what´s causing the incontinece? I´ve been offered medicin from the vet. to my bitch when we suspected that she was urin incontinent. I know a lot of people here in Sweden, that have very good experience of the medication. Quote
IndyandHollyluv Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 What a bummer. So sorry things are not going well for Spencer - and you. In response to your prior post, I mentioned that my Indy, almost 11, has mild LS/disk protrusion, etc. Although he is not incontinent, he can no longer "hold it" as long as he used to. For whatever reason, he started to pee in one particular corner of the living room (rather than all over the house, for which I am grateful). I finally spread an old vinyl tablecloth over the carpet and layer incontinence pads on top. I purchase the incontinence pads at a medical supply store (they are unscented and less expensive than the ones at the pet store). Sounds like Spencer might benefit from something diaper-ish as well? He now won't lay down because he doesn't like the belly band or the pads Oh well, he will get tired and give up eventually. It's not like they're hurting him! Thanks for the tip! Quote

I'm sure he'll adjust to how they feel. Another friend had a dog w/ LS who leaked a lot and always smelled like urine. THe pads made a huge difference for him. Kept him dry and much less smelly. He didn't like the extra padding, but he did get much perkier when he was dry on a regular basis! Guest Cris_M Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 When Gabriel became incontinent (urine only), I covered his bed with a cheap plastic tablecloth from the dollar store. These are very thin, soft and can be tossed when they get smelly. On top of the tablecloth, I put one layer of soft fabric that I got from the $1 table at Wal-mart. I got enough fabric to make about 5 "covers". This made laundry time much shorter. I only had the piece of fabric to toss in the wash and a tablecloth to wipe down. His skin never broke down or got a rash, and he didn't have any odor (at least to humans!) in the weeks he had the problem. Hope you find a solution -- or a bunch of them -- that work for you and Spencer. Quote
Stoney Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I'm sorry to hear about poor Spencer. Beans is a little incontinent - we love the H.O.T belly bands. Quote ClayGreys
