Waiting For Monday

Blackberry is not running much of a fever now, but she seems to be feeling poorly again. The antibiotics must be working, could that be upsetting her tummy. She is sleeping in the back of my closet, which is new. She has to be called several times for her to get up and come to me, which is also new. I believe she ate dinner, hard to tell with two at the food dishes. I suppose I need to seperate them for a while and watch. I am giving her yogurt with a bit of sour cream mixed in on her kibble for breakfast. I give her a pill with a raw meatball after she eats. Then she gets canned food over her kibble at supper. She still doesn't look like she is gaining much.

I check back with the vet on Monday.

Just a guess, but the antibiotic could be making her feel uncomfortable. If her stomach is upset, the sour cream might be a bit too heavy for it. Try some chicken broth or some packaged chicken noodle soup (like Lipton's) and see if that helps a bit. Antibiotics can be tough for some dogs. Please keep us posted.

I'm sorry she is not feeling well. Yes, antibiotics could be bothering her stomach. When one of my greys was on a heavy duty antibiotic, his appetite decreased and simply soaking his kibble in warm water got him to eat. I hope your vet can give you some answers Monday.

I have always found that probiotics and Pepcid AC really help the stomach and gut when a dog is on antibiotics. One Pepcid every day, and probiotics about an hour after the meds really seem to help.

Also, feeding separately will help you know how well she's eating.

Goodness, who knew the dog could go on a acid reducer too! Now the whole house will almost be on them...My husband and I practically worship our "little purple pills," and the human kids get over the counter acid reducers.

Berry had gotten tired of plain yogurt, and we recently found out how much she loves sour cream, so I just put a couple of big spoonfuls in a large carton of yogurt for flavor. I hope this isn't hurting her. I can also try peanut butter. Her stool is fine, hubby followed her out with a flash light last night.

We have fed her separately this weekend, and she eats normal in my opinion. I might try softening her kibble some, she does try to fish out the moist food that I mix in at times.

Her attitude is becoming more playful. I think that is because her fever broke. I will keep you updated. Thanks for all your suggestions!
