Guest EmbersDad
took ember back to the vet yesterday. initial 5 days of metacam didnt eliminate her limp, and it is worse. tick panel was negative for erlichea, babesia and lyme. xrays appear clear and doctor g seems confident that there is no cancer. i can have them send the xrays to osu if i want. we are going to go with a week of metacam and tramadol 2x a day to see how she feels, and then if no improvement, a visit to an ortho specialist. anybody have any other suggestions? Tallgreydogmom
I would have all the test results and x-rays sent up to OSU ASAP. They have many Drs from the many different departments that consult together. Prayers for Ember. Quote Then God sent the Greyhound to live among man and remember. Edited to add: During my research of hypothyroidism for Flashy...I read somewhere that hypothyroidism can cause lameness and I for the life of me can not find that information again in my files. This may or may not be true (maybe Dr. Bill could chime in here)...probably a shot in the dark but just wanted to add this. Remolacha
Was she ever in CA or the southwest? Otherwise unexplained limping can be a sign of Valley Fever, and your vet may not think to test for it back east.

TheFullHouse
FYI, just because you can't see a corn doesn't mean it's not there. Andy limped for a good 2 months, we went through x-ray after x-ray and then one day a tiny spot appeared on his toe...sure enough it was a corn. Some times they can feel them before we can see them. edited to add: I'd probably send off the x-rays and double check just in case. If they're negative, keep checking her toes. Batmom
Might be able to test the corn theory if anyone has a Therapaw or two in her size that you can borrow. I suggest two because sometimes a dog who is not used to wearing boots will refuse to put the booted foot down ... but if you boot both front feet (or back, as the case may be), they have to walk on them. tbhounds
There is a test--it might seem a little over the top but, it works well. You could "ring block" (numb) the foot or the suspected toe. If the limp goes away then the injury is in the foot. Of course, the vet needs to be open to do this but, this test is inexpensive and really easy to do. Usually Lidocaine is used but, so it doesn't sting make sure the vet knows how to buffer it so it won't hurt--we all know how much that can burn!
