Guest SusanP Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Spinner came in minus one toenail and trailing blood. Vet said as long as I can stop bleeding, he doesn't need to come in. Is there anything else I should be doing for his comfort? Will I need to keep it bandaged past the time the bleeding stops? Quote
turbotaina Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 When Turbo shucked one of his on the patio, I put styptic on the remaining nail and kept him bandaged for a few days. After that, he was just fine Quote Meredith with Heyokha (HUS Me Teddy) and Crow (Mike Milbury). Missing Turbo (Sendahl Boss), Pancho, JoJo, and "Fat Stacks" Juana, the psycho kitty. Guest TaraCoachCougar Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 We've lost many a nail on our wooden pier over the years. Just keep him a little calm so the bleeding doesn't start back up, but we've never had any trouble after the initial incident. Quote
packmom Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Shilo lost one at the dog park. We wrapped it right then but it wouldn't stay on anyway. He was fine without having any other treatment. It grew back really wonky! Quote
MerlinsMum Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 When this happend to Merlin I disinfected it several times a day and when we had to go out I put a gauze pad on it, wrapped gauze around his foot, kept it together with tape, and slipped on one of these. They're great (greyhound size = large, the purple ones) and kept his toe from getting infected because it was not in contact with the dirt etc on the ground. When he was home napping I would take it off so the wound could breathe. Your dog will look like he's wearing a purple condom but it's worth it IMO...
