After 13 years of wanting to adopt a retired racer, I finally convinced my DH that even though he has never met a dog he particularly liked, he'd love greyhounds. Guess what...I was right!

I volunteer with an organization in my area, and when a dog was returned to them who they knew would be great with my two little kids, elderly cat, and dog-hesitant husband, they asked me if I'd like to foster her.

Bonnie (Racing name Chica's Bonnie) came home with me on June 14th, and by June 21st, I was writing to our adoption coordinator asking to make it official!

She's the sweetest, most gentle, affectionate girl, and after only 3 short months, I can't imagine life without the piles of stuffed animals she carefully moves from my daughter's room to mine, the wet nose waking me up at 6am, mad dashes through our tiny backyard, and the companion who is always sprawled out next to me, no matter what room I'm in.

Hello!! I'm so happy to find out who adopted Bonnie! If she is anything like Pace she has got to be a sweet girl. We have to get her & pace together!! I wonder if he would recognize her? I'll shoot you a PM with my info...

Edit:

Can't PM you, you don't have 50 posts yet... dang it! Well, I am over in Oak Park, and I would love to get Pace & Bonnie together for a little reunion, let me know if you are interested. If you live on the north side maybe we could meet up at dog beach or something??

Oh she is beautiful! Where are you in the NW burbs? I'm in Lake in the Hills by Crystal Lake. My parents & in-laws still live in Schaumburg...if you are close, we should walk the hounds together.

I can't PM you until you have 50 posts...

Welcome to GT!

Thank you for being so welcoming! After a lurking and being so envious of all of you with your greyhounds, it's so nice to be posting about my very own pup.

Wow, 50 posts is what it takes to use the PM feature? Guess I'd better get posting!

Kate, I'd love to get Bonnie and Pace together. I don't know if you ever saw it, but after I adopted her I did a search for "Chicas" and found that you had adopted Chica's Whitey. So, I tried to do a "Paging KateWantsaGrey" post to get your attention, since I couldn't PM yet. Pace arrived fresh from the track on my very first day volunteering up at the kennel. I was actually the one holding his leash in the pictures that were posted on GO's website. He won me over right away, and when the folks at GO told me that Bonnie was his littermate, I knew that she'd be a great dog. Let's meet up and see if the sibs remember eachother!

FrostyBottoms and Kate, I live in Arlington Heights, and would love to walk the dogs with both of you anytime. There's a group of people who walk their hounds at Twin Lakes in Palatine every Wednesday night - I guess it's a tradition that's been going on for a long time. It would be fun to meet up there, or some place that's a little closer to either of you. Until I'm able to PM, I set up an account where people can email me: bonniehound@yahoo.com

I know about that group that walks....my friend Patti (maxigreys) used to walk with them and i think Ken (OMGIluvgreys) walks with them too. I'd be up for that! It sounds like fun. Is that the park with the hill that Walter Payton used to run up and down to train?

I have chicas Carol (Addiason)!!!! Bonnie's sister!!! We took addison up to Kenosha to meet Bonnie right before we moved back to Iowa, March 29th, 2008. I have pics of them on my computer here if you want to see them. My email is travisferris@gmail.com. My addy is so pretty and so so sweet, but we got the chance to walk Bonnie and hang out with her. She is a little taller then addison. My fiance and I were saying that we didn't think we would find another grey prettier then Addison, but we both thought that bonnie could be??. I was so sad she was in here little crate and we had to leave her. Later she got returned and we wanted to get her so bad, but we also have a Itallian Grey as well. Anyhow if she is anything like her sister you have one special girl. Let me know how she is doing please.
