Poor baby, sending prayers. :hope

Greyhound angels at the bridge- Casey, Charlie, Maggie, Molly, Renie, Lucy & Teddy. Beagle angels Peanut and Charlie. And to all the 4 legged Bridge souls who have touched my heart, thank you. When a greyhound looks into you eyes it seems they touch your very soul.

Looks like Blitzy-boy's eyelid thing. We tried several different antibiotics - Simplicef and ciprofloxicin oral antibiotics (plus he was on Baytril during some of the time for intestinal issues), and also tried neo/poly/dex and erythromycin ointments, and also prednisolone acetate eyedrops. We also tried an injection of steroid directly into the eyelid mass - it worked for about a week, maybe a week and a half, then increased in size again. We've been avoiding oral steroids because he has a history of getting UTI's while on steroids and also increased and inappropriate urination, but the eye specialist finally said we had to do it. So he's been on 20 mg of prednisone twice daily since Thursday pm, and we will be tapering that off slowly starting tomorrow pm. We're also using the prednisolone eyedrops again, but about 6 times a day instead of 2 or 3 times daily. The swelling is much reduced, and it really looks tons better.

Oh, and his cytology results came back as a granulomatous fibrosis, which just means an inflammatory response to some sort of irritation - our current hypothesis is a spider bite. This is Blitz's eyelid from about five weeks ago:

I really should take a picture of what it looks like now....

A spider bit could surely be the culprit. Your grey's eye looks like what I get every time I am bitten. Red and swells up for weeks. Hope that's all it is! I am allergic to the venom in spider bites and I would think it's no different in dogs.

We are still praying for Sheena, precious baby girl, we hope it is just minor and going through the process to get better, also for good test results. :bighug

I doubt it is a bite. She's been bit before and her entire face swelled up like a balloon instantly and required a trip to the evet. I keep Benadryl on hand for that.
