I'm a vet tech so I see it all the time, but I also have a 5 year old chihuahua that has HORRIBLE teeth. I brush their teeth daily and last year I had to pull 13 teeth. Poor little thing is darn near toothless. Thankfully they were mostly incisors and teeth that aren't "needed," and porphyromonas (dental) vaccine made a world of difference so this year I only had to take 2. Hugs to your baby.
