Sudden Limping

After a day of being in the crate for about 6 hrs, some frisky playing in the yard, and two walks without a problem, one of my greys got up out of her crate with a pretty severe limp.

She had was fine before she laid down in the crate but was hurt when she walked out for her last bathroom walk before bed. She yelped when she got up and then limped out of her crate. My husband and I looked over her leg and when he bent her elbow she yelped again. Her vet is going to see her this morning.

She has had the same problem before with the same leg before (front left), but it went away with rimadyl in a few days and it was concluded that is was probably an old injury or maybe arthritis (although, it seems to me that none of her other joints are affected, but I'm not a vet, so who knows).

Any thoughts?

I'm trying not to think the worst.

I came home from shopping one day, after being gone maybe an hour, and Navigator got up to greet me with a yelp and holding his front leg up. I don't crate him. I checked him over and found that his front knee was swollen and hot. I din't know what he had done to it, but when he plays in the house with his toys, he plays HARD, so I figured he hurt it while playing. I walk him on a leash, so I knew he didn't injure himself outside. Off to the vet we went. X-rays showed a few puss pockets, and nothing else, no cancer, etc. Vet gave him antibiotics because there was some sort of infection based on the hotness of the area, and some deramaxx. Within 2 days he was fine. It never happened again. Weird...

Good luck with your vet visit.

The vet visit was fine! Vet says it's just a sprain. Gave us some pain medication and orders to take it easy :shakefinger and give her a call in three days.

All worried for nothing  thanks for the thoughts and prayers

She's actually much better, mood wise, and her is limp is barely perceptible.

Just catching up now and am glad to see that it is a minor injury. Don't you just hate it when they scare you like that? We have a fawn grey who has a tender leg that she pulls now and then but I hold my breath every time I see her limp. Give a hug to your girl for me.

Ya hoo! Glad to hear it was just a sprain. Just be careful when she does start to play again, that you limit the play time. My collie sometimes would keep injuring his shoulder by playing hard, and we'd have to start deramaxx or metacam all over again.

I am glad that you went to the vet to have it looked at. I'm sure it takes a lot off of your mind to know that it is nothing more than a sprain. Hope your baby is feeling better soon.

I know, I DO hate being scared like that! You just hear so many awful stories that begin with limping starting without an obvious cause. Thanks so much for all the positive thoughts and prayers. :)
