Guest houndlover
I sent urine samples to the vet for 2 of my 3 dogs b/c one of them was peeing in the house. Billy and Daisy have had problems in the past so that is why I thought it might be one of them. Here are the results: Daisy has calcium oxolate crystals but they are less then the last time she had a urinalysis done. A year ago the crystals were a 4+ and now they are only a 2. Here urine is also more alkaline than it should be. She has been on rx food since being diagnosed with crystals but I am thinking of switching her. She is on Purina n/f right now and I am thinking of switching to Royal Canin S/O. I am also open to other suggestions for food if people have experience with a different brand. Billy's urine was very dilute (Daisy's was very concentrated). His urine was also more alkaline than it should be. He had an ERD done a few years ago and was diagnosed with very early stage kidney failure. He has been on a mixture of Eagle Pack and Purina n/f. The vet suggested switching to Eukanuba rx food for him. Does anyone have experience with this food or other suggestions? The vet was very good about explaining everything to me but I feel like I have lost something in translation here. Can someone explain how having alkaline in the urine would affect either of these things? I thought that I understood what the vet was talking about but now I am starting to question myselt. CaliforniaGreys
Misty was dx with early stage kidney disease almost 3 years ago. I remember my vet telling me that kidney "disease" and kidney "failure" are very different. I tried her on a couple of different prescription kidney diets but she has done best on Hill's KD.She is also on Enacard. We do blood work every 6 months and her kidney values are good and less protein in her urine. Don't know if this helps Quote Missing my little Misty who took a huge piece of my heart with her on 5/2/09, and Ekko, on 6/28/12 For the sick, the lost, and the homeless
