Shanti's Tail Problem

Recommended Posts

Guest Vinnie

Well, at least you finally have some answers - which helps. Both Home Depot and Lowes carry the velcro now and in various sizes - I usually find them on an endcap or side facing display towards the end of the aisles or by the registers (I go there too often :lol ). Hope the meds continue to help and Shanti heals up soon, poor girl. Every time I look at your siggy I think I am looking at Gracie - wow, they could be sisters! Hope this will let you all get some sleep and that her hair grows back. Hugs and scritches.

Change of plans...

We are meeting with the surgeon tomorrow. That way I don't have to take my kids with me which will be better. Nothing worse than having to try to pay attention with Thing 1 and Thing 2 along! :D I will pick up the rest of her records from our vet that they are missing tomorrow morning. I will let you know what he says.

I put some wrap on Misty's tail just to try the velcro and it worked great. She wasn't too happy about it but Wayne doesn't have a tail and Ekko's has way too much fur so Misty had to be the tester. :lol

Tell her we appreciate her being a Guinea pig! :lol Shantis hair is falling out at a rapid rate. Maybe that will work.

I am off to the day of vet hoping. I will post when I get back and know more. :D

We are back from the surgeon/specialist. Not good news. :( The prime suspect at the moment is....

CANCER. We are not 100% yet. She saw a oncologist as well. They took several samples and sent them off tot he labs. In the xrays you could see the bone loss. The xrayed her chest area and there was some suspicious stuff there. Her lymph nodes are swollen and have blast cells (bone cells) in them. That should not be the case. It is likely a joint tumor. Possibly metastasized.

So now that I am devastated, broke, crushed, mad, frustrated I have to go take Asti into the vet for her shots.

We will know more next week.

I am so sorry :( I've been following your trials and tribulations with Shanti, and every time I see her face, I think what a beautiful girl she is. I hope that their suspicions are wrong.

Aarrrggghhhh ...... even though my dh says the dictionary doesn't show this as a word - I know better! It's the word that encompasses all the dirty words that you want to yell and scream whenever a doctor or vet pull out the dreaded C word! I think we have all had enough of that word and that it is time for it and all it's branches to go away.

Now that I am done with my mini rant ... I am so, so sorry to hear this news. I was hoping that everything going on with your poor little girl would be something easily fixed with the right meds. We will add your sweet girl to our prayer chain and keep you all in our thoughts. I know the next few days of waiting are going to drive you crazy so hopefully Asti can help you de-stress with her puppy antics. (How's her tooth by the way?) Please give Shanti extra scritches from us and hugs for everyone. Please keep us posted, especially if there is something that we can do. Sending lots of healing thoughts and white light.

I must say I think a flurry of words quietly came our of my mouth when I was alone. B) I pray they are wrong. I ran into my adoption rep Sharon at the other vets today. So I filled her in. She was stunned too. Shanti is only 4.

Asti is fine. Not much keeps her down. I am guessing I will be partaking in a little of her namesake Asti tonight. :blush

Just think good thoughts for my girl. She needs them! I will let you know what the results come in as. There is a slim chance we will not get a complete answer and have to do a open biopsy. Let's hope that is not the case too.

Hoping and praying that they are wrong and that you and Shanti can somehow keep your strength up through all this. You've both held up amazingly, somehow! And you have many of us hanging in there with you. Hope it helps.

Well, apparently Meg does not wrap as tight as I do. Early this morning it was on, when I came back down it was off. I found it just inside the dog door, fully wrapped still. :P We were thinking it might be best to shave the tail as the hair was making a mess, no need. The hair fell out! I re-wrapped her in yet another color. She did not move or care any more that I messed with it. So that means it is feeling A LOT better! Her thighs look better and her belly is looking better.

This mornings picture: A little rat tail.

We should have some results today. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm hurting for her.. Ouch.
