Seizure Scare This Morning

Let me first say how grateful I am that DH happened to randomly take today off from work . . . I heard a bang this morning before I got up and thought it was just Peanut playing. After I got out of the shower, DH called me down and said something's wrong with Peanut and that he thought she just had a seizure. He said she was rigid, her eyes darting rapidly and was unable to stand up, instead flopping down again like a fish. So we loaded her into the car (again, thank goodness he was home b/c he carried her) and called the vet on the way. By the time we pulled in, Peanut was standing and acting mostly normal, though she had weakness in her back legs when we walked her in. The vet looked her over and did a full blood work-up. He said she looks completely fine now, but that some dogs self-recover after a seizure. He'll call tomorrow w/the results and we just need to monitor her. We were really worried and poor DH was going crazy b/c this is his little princess. Peanut is our "well child" and so we really worry when she has anything medical. Please send any good thoughts to her if you have a few to spare! Anyone ever deal with this?

***Update***

We just got a call from the vet and her bloodwork looks normal-no signs of renal failure, etc. He said that Epilepsy is still a possibility, but we'll need to see if she has any more seizures. We brought up two more beds into the bedroom last night (for a total of 4  ) and closed the door so that we would be there is anything else occured, which nothing did thank goodness. She seems a bit weak in her back legs today and the vet said it's likely that she is sore from the seizure and should resolve in 24-36 hours. So for now we continue to watch her (checking her every 15 min. so that the poor girl can't get any sort of great rest) and monitor her. I think DH has finally taken a deep breath now that she seems okay-Peanut is his princess and he was so upset that she was going through this. He is the one that was there while the seizure was going on and I think he keeps replaying it in his head. So all is well today thank goodness. Thank you everyone for the well wishes and advice, it is truly appreciated! :) :) :)

Sending prayers and positive thoughts for Peanut. Alan has had 2 focal seizures that I know about - he has bounced back soon after.

Henry has had some extreme seizures, he has always self recovered so far. Sometimes it can take a few days for Henry to get back to normal if it was a really severe one. Since I have discovered the ice bag trick, Henry's seizures are shorter and recovery time is much faster.

What a blessing that your husand was home today. I know I think clearer and faster and cope better when my husband is here.

You do want to keep Peanut seperated from the rest of the pack when you are not home, in case she seizes. It is quite common for seizuring dos to be attacked by other dogs in the house, no matter how close they are.

Hopefully this will be an isolated incident. :grouphug

Thanks so much for the good thoughts and tips. I will show DH the ice technique as well. Thank goodness the dogs are with us at work, etc. b/c it will eliminate the amount of time they would be home alone together if it does happen again. Though I just looked into the living room to check on her and Smiley is laying on her bed with her which he NEVER does, so maybe he's quite the caretaker??? :blush
