Guest greytful4
Ky keeps getting what I think are hives, they come and go at no particular time. This all started in December when her beloved kitty, Theodore escaped and was gone for three cold ,rainy nights. Those welts were so bad that I took her to the vet who in turn gave her two shots and medication. Since that time she will break out in them periodocially for no apparent reason that I can see. I don't know if it's a heat rash (she's ALWAYS hot) or if it is an allergic reaction to who knows what. Right now, she is still recovering from a broken toe and in a spoonbill splint. She needs a a bath really bad but tonight her belly is full of welts and I dare not put anything on them. The funny thing is, they will go as quicly as the come. I am at a loss here...... Can dogs get heat rashes and how would it look different than hives ? rycezmom
What does the vet say? Is there a change in her diet or snack that you are giving her? Do they seem to bother her? Itch? Are you washing her bedding with something new? Are they always in the same place? Wish I had an answer. My Collie, years ago had what looked like hives. Biopsied it. That told me what the problem was but wont clutter this issue as it does not seem to sound like the same thing. Give Miss Kylie a kiss from her Auntie Leslie.... Guest BlackandBrindle
I'm wondering if it's stress related? I think you should keep a journal of when it happens, maybe you can come up with a pattern of behavior, or diet or something that will give you something to go on. My cairn broke out in hives but that was an allergic reaction to wheat.

Guest Scouts_mom
What kind of dog bed does he have? I know a grey that got hives from a bed with cedar in it. The bed was dumped and the hives disappeared.

The bed was dumped and the hives disappeared. She has the same bed that she's had from the beginning and it's a fiberfilled bed...but she mostly sleeps on MY bed ! The vet looked at her today and said it looks like a contact allergy, so I can't imagine what's causing it..
NHNora
At our kennel, there was a dog staying who was just diagnosed with an allergy to MOUSE DANDER!! When he stayed at our kennel, he was fine, but when he got home, he'd get all red and allergic again. The lady who owns him lives in an old house, and they just kind of put 2 and 2 together. So she's had a professional exterminator out, and now his allergies are fine. She just has to keep the mice out! Good luck with finding the cause. Guest MorganKonaAlex
If it's a contact allergy, it might be to your laundry soap or softner.
Guest Vinnie
Maybe a fabric sheet too - a friends grey was allergic to the bounce sheet she put in. Hugs to you and Kylie, hope they can find the allergy quickly.
