Guest MnMDogs
First off, we have an appt on Monday, and called the vet just now to see if they could be taken together. However, the vet is seeing emergencies and isn't available, and we don't think this is an emergency. Mara has had a painful hind leg since early Thursday am. She had a heavy heavy running and playing session on Weds night and started showing signs of pain Thursday. She is our tough girl, the healthiest of the bunch, and never ever shows any sign of pain/age/etc. So we're a little worried. Thursday was bad, with her limping and screaming with certain movements. We made an appt Friday with a vet we didn't know since the one we like wasn't available. Friday she seemed better, no screams - so I canceled until next week when the good vet was in. The pain seems to be most noticeable when she stretches her hind legs (left is the injured one apparently) Last night, she started to scream again with stretching, and is just not herself - it's very unusual to see our tough girl like this. We've been giving her Rimadyl 75 mg with food at night (she also gets glucosamine). But I want to know if it's safe to give her Tramadol with it. We have 50 mg tablets, and I'm certain I've seen them prescribed in conjunction as one is an NSAID, and the other a pain med. Are there contraindications? I don't think this warrants an e-vet visit, but I want to try to help her with the pain. Thank you!
Guest gryhndmom
not sure. If no vet is available to ask I would try a pharmicist. They might be able to tell you if there would be any drug interactions. I had my dogs Tramadol script filled at a regular pharmacy so I would think a pharmacist could look up any drug interactions. Just a thought as some pharmacies are open 24 hours and most if not all are open on Sundays

feemandvm
Rimadyl and tramadol can be safely used together. The main drug interactions with tramadol occur with SSRI drugs like Prozac or Clomicalm. Guest MyCody
Cody, who is 12 and has protruding discs has been on Rimadyl and Tramadol for about six months. 100mg AM 50 PM of Rimadyl and Tramadol AM mid afternoon and evening. He's had chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture and at this point, just keeping him comfortable with no side effects from the two meds.
