krissn333
I went to dinner with my friend last night and she told me her dog was diagnosed with heartworms She said the test showed a barely positive result, but, nonetheless, it was there. He will start treatment soon...he has to be kept quiet for several weeks (I remember JillysFullHouse's Heart going through that). They got him about a year and a half ago from the shelter as a puppy. They hadn't had him to the vet yet this spring for his yearly because their lives were very hectic and they just didn't have time. Unfortunately, that window of a few months was likely the time when he became infected I don't think the treatment is as long or as intense as some other cases, becuase it was caught somewhat early. Does anybody have any experience with that? I mean, does that sound right to you? Please send some good thoughts for Kacer and his family as they go through this...Kacer has a little girl, my friend's daughter that has stayed with me before...she's worried about her dog and is sad they won't get to play together for a while Here's a picture of him...he's some kind of a hound mix...he's red with black on the tips of his hair... TheFullHouse
Many prayers and good thoughts for the sweet little thing. The more severe the heart worms the longer the treatment. Heart's wasn't an advanced case so she was treated for 6 weeks. I've known dogs that had to have treatment for up to two months or more though. Those were the really severe cases. Guest argolola
Our vet and adoption kennel recommended we try HeartGard Plus. That, combined with a lot of prayers, had Lola heartworm free in 6 months. Prayers for your friend's pup.
Guest AaronsMom
My Aaron was claimed to have been successfully treated for heartworms at the track kennel at some point. He is 2-1/2 and he has been in our family since Mar. 1st, and he is a very happy, healthy boy. So assume treatment, especially if caught in time, can work! LuvEarsies
Back in the 1980's, we adopted (from a family member) a female, wire fox terrier at age 7. At her first visit with our vet she tested positive for heartworm. Her's was advanced and she was on the treatment for 2 months. I'm happy to report she lived a very happy, fiesty life until age 13. Sending lots of good thoughts for Kacer. Guest Snowy8
When I got BuyCut he was at level 4...very severe. We went for treatments for 4 months. Imagine keeping a wirey little guy like him quiet for 4 months. The first treatment, he did fine...the rest you could tell they were bothering him. He wanted to sleep a lot & be by himself...so when he'd come home from a day at he vet, I'd put him in my bedroom with a fan blowing on him & the bed all to himself. He was 7 yrs old & lived to be 10 1/2...recently crossed the bridge due to an unrelated blood clot.
