Guest jessicaksu125
Can anyone recomend a good over the counter car sickness medicine for pups? Pulitzer throws up sometimes in the car, and we're driving 9 hours to New York on Friday. With two of them in the backseat, I wouldn't complain if the medicine had a bit of a drowsy effect! Houndtime
I give my guys ginger tablets. Give them two tablets about 1/2 hour before you are ready to leave. I take them too. Tallgreydogmom
I would not feed them in the AM. Quote Then God sent the Greyhound to live among man and remember. inugrey
OTC dramamine. One pill works just fine and no drowsiness with that non drowsiness formula. I don't know if they've been culled or not but do some searches in this forum and training and behavior car sickness is often discussed. CaliforniaGreys
I have had great results with Bonine.Basically the same as Dramamine but for my guys, the Bonine has worked better. Guest LynnM
Meclizine/Bonine is more or less the standard for dogs. Dramamine is also safe. Consult with your vet for proper dosages. Also, don't feed the morning of travel and allow some water, but no tanking up. Lynn
Guest MySkye
No breakfast, a bit of water and another nod for bonine. I have also used chewable childresn strength dramamine on the recommendation of my vet. Good luck and safe travels.
Guest jessicaksu125
I took Pulitzer to the vet this morning for her lyme booster and he gave me Hydroxyzine tabs for the girls, and said not to feed within 2 hours of the trip. Thanks for the suggestions though!
Guest MZH
Cerenia is wonderful. Pricey, but wonderful. Works well for other kinds of nausea too, Marcia in SC ETA: Sorry, I didn't see the date and you're probably back by now! Did the hydroxyzine work OK? I have a cat that gets very carsick. I'm wondering if it would work for her. Edited June 14, 2008 by MZH
Guest brandi007
I posted this in another thread, might be worth looking into for long trips This comes a little late for me as my beloved bridge baby Foxy Promise had severe motion sickness but it may help some of you that were in the same boat I was. Taken From: http://www.dogguide.net/blog/2008/06/motio...-drug-for-dogs/ Did you know that about 17% of all dogs suffer from motion sickness? It’s not because they’re helping you by reading the map in the passenger seat! Pfizer Inc recently introduced Cerenia, an FDA approved motion sickness pill for dogs. The pill is only available through a veterinarians prescription and when used, prevents vomiting without sedation. Pfizer says that the injectable form of the drug will be useful in treating vomiting caused by other serious illnesses such as parvovirus, kidney disease, and pancreatitis. It could also be used in canine patients undergoing chemotherapy. With more and more pets traveling with their owners on pleasure or business, this new medication may be a big help and prevent some hardships for everyone involved! Foxy would throw up every single time I took him for a car ride. This was quite difficult to deal with as he was a social guy that loved to get out and walk in new places. I would have to place blankets down which he would puke on and then I would throw in the wash, I had about 4 puke blankets I would cycle through.... I tried Gravol but this made him groggy which kind of defeated the purpose of getting him out. Hopefully the above can help some of you out! Neighsayer
Hope your girls did ok. Tucker is the only one who gets sick here. He does fine with a few ginger snaps before we go. I keep them in the freezer.
