Guest dmona
One of our greyz had this injection a couple of months ago and did fine, just came home and slept the rest of the day and the next day back to his old self. Yesterday another one had it and she had a terrible time. She paced from 10:00 AM until bedtime at 10:00 PM and slobbered ALL OVER the house. I know each ireacts differently and just wondered how some of yours have done. I am dreading the second shot in two weeks.
Burpdog
Did the vet use atropine or benedryl (injectible)? She should have stayed at the vet clinic all day for them to watch her! Here are the instructions I received from those who do a lot of Imizol injections: 60 lbs is 1.50ml 70 lbs is 1.75 ml 80lbs is 2.00ml Two IM injections exactly two weeks apart---give a shot of Benadryl 20 minutes before each shot to minimize drooling. Alternate side that the shot is given. Atropine can be used instead of Benedryl Draw imizol then change the needle Quote Diane & The Senior Gang Burpdog Biscuits
Guest mandm
My greyhound's reaction was very common. He had one episode of vomiting & diarrhea 20-30 minutes after each of the two injections. Then he slept the full day after the first shot and half the day after the second shot. I think they are much more likely to sleep like the dead rather than pace. I'd be nervous too if I were you. But it seems like the second injection causes milder reaction than the first. Good luck.
Guest greyladydown
We've had several dogs that needed Imizol injections and none of them had any reactions (thankfully). I arranged for them to stay at the vet office for observations for several hours after each injection and our vet also gave them injectible Benadryl. Is there a reason why your dog was injected two months, rather than 2 weeks apart?
Guest 4Irishgreys
My Dylan had the big "D" a couple of hours after his first shot but no reaction of any kind after the second. Shirley & the Irish Gang

JoJo is the one who had this a couple of months ago and then two weeks later....a different dog yesterday. Thanks for your input and actually the vet who gave JoJo the injection I like much more than the one yesterday. Think I'll request him the next go round as there were no problems. Guest LynnM
They tend to get a bit nauseous, but that's about it. I've only had one that had a throw-down hissy fit- the shot startled the daylights out of him and he never forgot it! As long as you feed lightly and don't let the dog tank up on water, everything should stay down. You can ask the vet for some Reglan the next time.
