This comes a little late for me as my beloved bridge baby Foxy Promise had severe motion sickness but it may help some of you that were in the same boat I was.

Did you know that about 17% of all dogs suffer from motion sickness? It’s not because they’re helping you by reading the map in the passenger seat! Pfizer Inc recently introduced Cerenia, an FDA approved motion sickness pill for dogs. The pill is only available through a veterinarians prescription and when used, prevents vomiting without sedation. Pfizer says that the injectable form of the drug will be useful in treating vomiting caused by other serious illnesses such as parvovirus, kidney disease, and pancreatitis. It could also be used in canine patients undergoing chemotherapy.

With more and more pets traveling with their owners on pleasure or business, this new medication may be a big help and prevent some hardships for everyone involved!

Foxy would throw up every single time I took him for a car ride. This was quite difficult to deal with as he was a social guy that loved to get out and walk in new places. I would have to place blankets down which he would puke on and then I would throw in the wash, I had about 4 puke blankets I would cycle through.... I tried Gravol but this made him groggy which kind of defeated the purpose of getting him out. Hopefully the above can help some of you out!

This is a great drug. Much better for controlling vomiting and nausea than our older drugs like Reglan, Chlorpromazine, Prochlorperazine, etc. It is only once daily which is easy to do as well. The problem is that the dose needed for motion sickness is 4x the dose that is needed for vomiting for other reasons which makes it a little pricier.

Great drug though... a definite improvement over what has been on the market.
