Having lost both of my "big guys"within two weeks of each other, as we all do, I have reflected on "if there was anything else I could have done." I can honestly say there was not. I know in my heart that I did everything I could.

I cannot tell you how much respect and gratefullness I have for my Vets. My Vet's practice is truly a family affair. Oldest son is the office manager, next son in line is a vet, youngest son is a vet tech and in charge of boarding, and oldest daughter is currently in college and will join her father in practice.

When I had Duncan's emergency surgery done, it was Dr Jamie who stayed most of the night with Duncan packing him with cold compresses to bring Duncan's fever down. It was Jamie who called me early Mother's Day to come and see if "we" could get Duncan to rally. It was Jamie who helped send Duncan gently to the bridge as I held Duncan's head in my lap. My son told me later that there were tears in Jamies eyes as I kissed Duncan goodbye.

It was Jamie's father, Dan that met me at the clinic yesterday morning to help with Slim. Slim couldn't get up so Dan got into my SUV and conducted his examination, confirming my fears. Dan wanting to keep Slim comfortable, gave Slim a sedatative right there. He gave us time for Slim to become completely relaxed and for me to spend some "alone" time. So in the back of my SUV where Slim felt at home, we helped him on his journey. As I shook Dan's hand and thanked him for all that he has done he replied that " I thank you for being so wonderful to your whole gang."

I found it very difficult to post under the topic "Remembrance" for Slim and Duncan and had my good friends post for me but I felt a great need to acknowledge what a wonderful vet family I have.

Run pain free my Royal Brothers I miss you so....

I'm so sorry that you lost both of your wonderful boys. Bless your vet and his family for making their passing as easy as possible on you all. Run free at the Bridge Duncan and Slim.

Nice OP When I learned Skye had OS I had only a very short window from when I learned of her diagnosis and when she left for the bridge. My DH and my mom couldn't bear to be in the room with me and Skye and they both left me. My vet stayed with me and held me until I could let go. He also cleared the waiting room for me so I could leave quietly with some dignity in tact. Not that I would have cared, but he did.

My vet is a warm and caring man. I can't imagine surviving that day with anyone else at my side.

Having lost two greys within three months, I can't imagine your grief with losses that much closer. When we lost Brandy, both techs in the room, who were assisting, were crying. John E, went so fast and after he was gone, again two techs came into the room to say goodbye. My vet does not make you pay when you leave after having your dog PTS, but they do bill you within a few days.

Please, let me extend my sympathies for your losses.

Eyes sweating here. I know that meant a lot to you as it would to all of us.

When we moved to S.C. last fall, I looked for a good vet but one who was close to us, well after I started fostering and taking the fosters to the vet used by the group, I fell in love with them and switched even though it is farther to travel.......it is well worth it....peace of mind.

I am sure you did everything you could for your boyz and so sorry you had to lose even one of them much less both.

I'm very sorry for your double loss and I do know how you must feel. We too have a wonderful vet. She always cries & tells each dog she's sorry for having to send them to the bridge. Her techs are very good also. It certainly helps at this terrible time as I remember when my DD had to decide it was time for a very injured dog to go the office manager asked her how she was going to pay, I got mad & so did other people in the waiting area.

Again, I am so sorry for your loss. My sweet boy went to the bridge on May 15th and yesterday, in the mail, I received a letter from the Ontario Veterinary College (University of Guelph) saying that they had received a donation in my boy's name from his vets. I could not stop crying. That was so thoughtful of them.
