Yiping With Movement?

Last night Dr. Doug began yiping when he gets up or down (not every time, but often) or shifts position. On a slow morning walk, he yiped and stopped several times, and we turned around and came home. He went down the stairs ok this morning but asked me to carry him up. After he yipes, he seems scared to move, tucks tail and looks pathetic. I am seeing no hint as to which leg it might be, if it's a leg. How soon would you call the vet over something like this? (I'm not going to be home until afternoon today, which also worries me).

He did race Spinner and Zippy in the yard late afternoon yesterday, so I'm wondering if he "pulled" something. Does this sound likely? How soon might it go away? Should I call a vet? :unsure

Personally, I would bring him in ASAP.

The only time I've had a dog do this it turned out to be a neck problem. Kept getting worse until the vet visit. They did a small adjustment & aquapuncture. She was right as rain the next morning. Don't got too stressed but I think getting him to a vet is a good idea.

Neck or back would be my guess. I'd take him in sooner rather than later to get it checked and/or get pain meds as necessary. Acupuncture or chiro might be a good idea, but find out what's causing it first.

Well, if it's neck I'd get it checked right away. A previous foster of ours pinced a nerve soon after he went to his home, and his mom took his to the vet right away, which was definately needed.

If it's a leg or hip, and he only seems uncomfortable mostly getting up and down, it might be a pulled muscle or something. Sobe "goes lame" quite often. Some days he wimpers getting up and down, then is fine. Mostly after strenuous exercise. I think it's in a hip or stiff leg. Vet has found nothing wrong - maybe a touch of early arthritis.

Betst of luck to you. I hope it's ok.

The vet spent a long time going over legs, back, neck, gait, the works and couldn't find a thing. They did a heartworm, lyme, erlichia test, and that was fine. Dr. Doug's liver enzymes were a tad elevated at his check up last month, so the vet doesn't want to put him on anti-inflammatories right now, but he will be on Tramadol 2x day for a week to see if that helps pain while time helps whatever he injured.
