I noticed Maisy looked a little more inactive than usual. When I looked in her crate, I saw that she was licking one of he back paws so I took a peek. It looks like her paw pad is ripped off. It looks really raw. Should I take her to the vet or treat it myself. If I should treat it myself, what do I do? TIA!

I took Leia to the vet when this happened. they used some type of glue and jsut glued it back on, but I don't kwno what type they used. I was told blown pads happen a lot....a new one grew underneath and the old one fell off.

Leia's didn't tear off, it was flapping around. Others made me feel like I overreacted but for the life of me I cannot remember what they were telling me,,,,sorry.

Thanks, I guess its pretty common. She's my first "baby" so I always overreact! We've only had her for 8 months and I've taken her to the vet 5 times. The vet must really like us by now! LOL!

Over the winter, Bueller had a pad on one of his paws the looked like it more or less got sliced off. Either by ice or maybe even frost bite. It wasn't bleeding at all, we just found it after seeing him licking his paw like a fiend. It just appeared really sore and raw. We cleaned it up and put some OxyFresh Pet Gel on it and put a gauze pad and wrapped it. Then we slipped a baby sock over it and put a ring of tape around the top of the sock (not on the fur) and changed the wrap daily and reapplied the gel. It healed up really nicely without any problems whatsoever. The sock kept Bueller from licking it and kept it relatively clean, considering it was winter! The pad grew back in very nicely, first appearing a light pink color. Bueller actually had the very same problem last winter too, and we treated it exactly the same way with the same good results. Hope this helps a little. Will think good thoughts and send prayers for Maisy! Bueller sends her doggie kisses because he said he knows how she feels!

I got a pic of it and it looks worse. She keeps licking it non stop. Should I just take her in to the vet tomorrow? What can they do for her besides bandage it? She's just chew it off within 5 minutes. :(

The vet won't be able to do anything except wrap it. Just keep it clean. If she keeps bothering it, stick a dog bootie or a child's sock on her foot. Soon enough that pink flesh will harden up and become the pad.
